Kessil

TGunn's First 37g in the Bay Area

I picked up a Kessil A360WE today and installed it over my tank. I have to say I'm REALLY happy with the color this thing has. My DIY LEDs are about 3 years old, and apparently the spectrum of LEDs has improved considerably. The Kessil really brings out subtle colors in the corals I didn't see before.

First a view of the Kessil mounted over the top:

I haven't decided if I'm going to keep with a glass top or go with open screening. The nice part about the glass top is it REALLY cut down on the evaporation (temps have never been an issue).

My poor birdsnest is taking a beating. The Challice has been doing a number on it. I am going to frag off chunks of it so I can re-seed it when the colony finally keels over.

These rics are my favorite change. With my old LEDs they were basically a solid pale blue. With the Kessil, there is so much more definition!

My next project is to get rid of all the eggcrate I used to keep the fish in the main area of the tank. I'm going to pick up some black acrylic from TAP plastics and build a proper front/back divider.

I think you made a great choice. These are great lights and almost indestructible over the long haul. I bought my A350s used 2-3 years ago and they're going strong other than cleaning dust out of the fans 1-2 times a year.

I'm super happy with the decision. So much to like about this light. I also forogt how much I liked the ripple lines a point source light provides!

Looking good. Glad you are happy with the light. I wanted kessil to come out with a bigger than the a150 light before they did and wasn't patient enough to wait for it, so I went with the AI sol blue as that was what was available at the time. Still happy with them, but definitely enjoy the look of kessils as well !
In that last series of close ups the first pic, monti of some kind? Cool growth form. And third pic, what is that?

Yeah, the Kessil A360WEs we have over our tank are pretty awesome, especially when it's controlled by a controller. Our nem and all the corals love it.

The first in my closeups is a common Monti cap. It's been doing relatively little in terms of growth. But I do like the color.

The third is a leptanthesia or something like that. I'm sure I butchered the spelling. :)

I'm admittedly a bit ashamed at how poor I am at updating this thread..

It looks like its time to upgrade! I've bought WPeterson's 90g tank, so I'll be upgrading! Here's my current 37g oceanic as it makes its journey across the kitchen to the other side of the room. I'm glad I put teflon furniture slides on the bottom of the stand as it made it pretty easy to slowly walk it over to the other side of the room.

Here's the whole tank; bad pic as I just used my phone. Though I'm happy the Kessil lets me adjust the color; I was able to make it less blue so the photo actually turned out okay:

I pulled one of my old Tunze 6101 streams out, thinking to use it on my new 90g tank. I can't believe how huge those are compared to even a Jebaeo pump. Wow. Guess I won't be using it.

Tyler - I'm both psyched you're getting the chance to upgrade and that the tank is going to a good home. I think you'll love it and it's the most tank you can fit in a small space (which is why I bought it).
