Our mission

Baby Mysis Shrimp in my Tank?!

So last night I turned on my frag tank light and I see these little white things zipping around my frag tank. There must have been over 200 of these tiny white things.

My sixline wrasse woke up and started eating as many as he could.

They are slightly bigger than tiggerpods but smaller than amphipods.

Heres a video. Will add pics later.

There were none in my main tank which is plumbed with my frag tank. Very strange.

I have been feeding hikari mysis shrimp lately!

Though I hear the mysis shrimp in hikari is a FRESHWATER species. So i imagine if these babies are mysis shrimp they must have hitch hiked into my tank on some coral frags I bought.

Those are not Mysis. Most likely those are hermit crab larva or larva of other shrimp you have. The Mysis I have in my tank look and swim quite differently. I got to see if I can take a video.

The big ones are the Mysis. The tiny ones are some kind of copepod:

Copepods doing their dance between the roots of my mangrove shoot (some baby Mysis can be seen as well):

Nice, do you feed them phyto? And what is the white snowy looking stuff?

No regular feedings - the refugium is full with detritus and all the other gunk that accumulates in a tank you don't clean. There are also tiny hard tube worms, sponges, tunicates,...
