High Tide Aquatics

First Tank!

Okay cool, that was another thought I had. Put the corals that I have in the basket and let the nem roam and find a comfy spot. Than introduce the corals again.

Good plan.. just cross your fingers that it doesn’t settle behind your rockwork where it’s barely visible.. like mine did. [emoji53]

Yeah, protect the corals! Anemones can move quick. I've seen both my BTA and Magnifica outpace a trochus snail. (yeah, my magnifica walks every week, but only down the pedestal a few inches and then back up, thank goodness).

eventually i want to get a coral only tank. and a nem only tank, (with fish in both). but thats later down the road when i have a bigger place.

Some updated photos of the corals.
Not the best pictures. Just from my phone.

Update!

So I recently bought a used ATO, to help keep waters at an even level. It's a cool feature and reasonably easy to install.

But here's the thing I learned.

When doing a water change. Make sure you turn off the ato, because I sat there for a few moments confused what pump I hear running when I have all my pumps off. Ohhh it's the ato... great.

Well I ended up doing a bigger water change out than I expected to count the effect of running the ato for a few extra moments.

That is the reason that I put a small light plugged into the same outlet that the ATO pump plugs into then I can see when it turns on by the light turning on.
When I do a water change, I unplug the ATO pump (but leave the light plugged in) then I fill the sump til the light turns off and plug the ATO pump back in. For me the light is a great warning when I have forgotten to plug the pump back in or when the pump is clogged, the light comes on and stays on. I put an orange cfl bulb in it and I can always notice when it is on.
Cheers! Mark

Yeah I remember you showing me that. When it happened to me I remembered your idea and was thinking about doing the same

Hey guys, weekly water change day and thought i would post my parameters.

salt 1.026
temp 75
ph 8.2
alk 7.8
mag 1280
cal 370
red sea test kit

my last water change was 1-18-18 and going to do one today after i get some errands done. changed out filter floss. also want to organize my cords down below. looking like a mess.

Installed my second power supply. This one runs pumps, skimmer, powerhead. Should be easier to turn them off when I'm feeding

Zip tied all the cords together to keep it organized. Less cords wildly sprawled out.

Doing some maintenance on the tank and noticed my light was not secured to the back of the tank. So grabbed my Allan wrenches to tighten the light arm. Well the bolts threads are striped and it doesn't tighten anymore. And it is very lose. Guess that's what you risk when you buy used parts.

Ordered a new arm and left for my trip to Tahoe. Hope my cat doesn't knock the light over while I'm away.
