I've always encouraged people to let it sit in tank water for a little bit first. The preservatives are just acids. What keeps it in suspension are just carbon sources for your tank.

Plastic isn't a safeguard to co2 long term but you'll probably be fine. This is exactly why I wanted to use Mylar bags for TDO.

Better store it in a good way... after a year if exposed to air, it will partially convert to sodium bicarbonate and become lumpy. Then you'll have to bake it to reconvert it :(

If its not cast, don't use it for aquatic use.

Granted Paul doesn't keep sensitive critters for the most part, so I wouldn't take his style to be conducive to growing stony corals.
