BRS Tonga Rock Question

Do i need to bleach this dry rock before putting it in the tank? i bought a large tonga shelf (way too big for my tank) and want to use it in the scaping. Nothing is in the tank now but water. I have some live rock to use as well.

I don't like the idea of muriatic acid.

Depends on where it came from. Was it from another tank previously?

You can soak it in some bleach to dissolve any left over organics on the surface. But you have to add Prime or something similar to remove it.

I'm not a fan of acid or bleaching rocks. My suggestion is to start scaping the tank. Add sw, powerheads and start your cycle. You can jump start it by adding bottled bacteria and ammonia. Start testing. Get into the habit of testing. Test for ammonia, when that shows 0, test for nitrites, when that is 0, test for nitrates. Let the tank run as is for a while and you should start seeing algae.
