How to tell if it's starphire?

Coral reefer

Past President
Going to look at a tank with my brother today. Supposed to be A lightly used oceanic starphire, but I was wondering if there is an easy way to tell if it Is or is not really starphire? It's empty in case that matters...not sure how many sides are starphire but I'm guessing they will be discernably different from the normal sides?

oceanic tanks are typically starphire front panels and standard sides, easiest way to tell is either take a white piece of paper and place it 1/2 way in the tank against the glass, if it looks alittle green it isnt starphire. or you can look down the glass panel itself, it should have a blueish tint to it, NOT a greenish tint.

always check the seams of the tank for cracks or any shrinkage/splits in the silicone, to avoid issues down the road.

best of luck with the tank!!!

easier then that, just look length wise to each pane. Normal will be dark dark green and starphire (low irion) will be white.

+1

Note : without additional info (like knowing oceanic only uses normal float or starphire), it will be very hard to tell starphire from other variants of low iron glass.

Note2: Looking down the edge of the glass (so that you see through >1ft of glass thickness) is dark green (almost black for some glass) for float glass. Low Iron and Starphire glass will have either a much lighter green tint or light blue tint
