Cali Kid Corals

My Comeback 40B Journal.

Finally I can start preparing to be active in the hobby, after long 5 years away from this hobby it really does feel like an eternity. Much has changed and now I got much more to re-learn, companies that had top notch equipment back then have now disappear and their equipment become obsolete. Now I guess I will learn as I go, starting with some old technology and then moving to new technologies along the way.

I have found and bought a good set from a great reefer here in BAR. And he has also helped me with some extra equipment to get started. The star here is a brand new Aqueon 40G Breeder, drilled and has a center megaflow courtesy of Mario, drain and return come thru the overflow for clean look, and the custom built cabinet he made.

Here I start preparing the inside with tub liner to help avoid any leaks and keep them hopefully contained within. ..

And here is the set on the chosen location with a temporary light fixture... this is a Odyssey that has been modified as follows, the original PC lights removed and T5ho put on its place, also the MH is a Phoenix 250 HQI DE driven by a ICECAP 250 Digital.

In the past I had the same fixture, except mine was the dual 250w and I had done the same mod, but I had twin T5 HO 54w on each side for a total of 4 and had different ballast also. Had great growth and color on my old 75g tank. So I am undecided if I will sell this fixture and get 165w Mars Aqua Led and mod it or to keep this halide...

BTW also I'm preparing the future home space for a frag tank, already have the power ran, and the RO kit installed ready to fill the new 34g Brute can to mix salt, waiting on the DI cartridge to add it to the system for RO-DI

I will.. I was a supporting member before I left the hobby, so I know all about the cool things that are available for members.

Some updates, so I had to modify the DIY sump, to make room for the skimmer since I was not able to sell it or traded it

Also since I have been able to find a decent reefkeeper (the old model) I had to get out my trusty timers... and wire up everything

Then a quick test on the skimmer and partitions on the sump.

Look at that skimmer go with just few minutes...

And after one night of having the Niagara Falls in my living room, I decided that I needed to reduce the sound and water flow as the pump was pushing about 800gph to that poor 40G tank.... [emoji32]

So I modified the return and removed the skimmer pump, added a T to the return line to split the flow between the skimmer and tank. Now the Niagara Falls are back where they belong, and not in my house.

:D looking good dude! I like that cave on the left! Very clean set up.

What kinda corals you gonna put in there? Any specific focus group? LPS, Softies, Anemones, SPS, Mixed Reef?
