Picasso Clown pair spawn

This is the first time that I know of.
Not a lot of eggs but it is nice to see it happen.
This pair is in a community tank. It would be nice to try and raise the family but not sure if or how it would be possible to get the fry out.
any suggestions?

you need to be able to remove the eggs. are they on a little rock? if not after these are gone put a piece of tile where the eggs were layed then you can remove them when needed. I have a book on raising clownfish if you want to borrow it. lmk.

If you can get the eggs out before they hatch it will be much easier for you to raise them. If you can't you should look into a larval snagger like this: http://www.reefs.com/blog/2012/09/25/vossen-larval-catchers-put-to-the-test-with-lipogramma-klayi/

For more info on breeding clownfish, check out: http://www.mbisite.org/Default.aspx

Good luck!

Terra cotta pots are a pain to aerate. If possible, add a ceramic tile for them to spawn on. Not as easy as it sounds but much easier to work with if you want to raise them. :)

If you can get them to lay the eggs on a 4"terra cotta pot that you can remove and give to David S to grow out.

That David guy isn't the brightest. If he can rear clowns then anyone can!

Congratulations, Jon!!!

I've had clowns ignore tiles, but so far none have refused the terra cotta pot. My operating theory is that clownfish are just natural potheads.

As Tal suggested, check out MBI. It's a fantastic network of breeders, and they are very supportive.

Please let me know if you need some rotifers or TDO to get you started!

Thanks all!
I will try sticking a tile or a chunk of terracotta right over the spot where they laid the eggs.
They are not going to be easy to get out this time.
maybe they will lay them on the new surface next time :) .
Crab opener today! I'm going to get off the continent for a few hours

Go catch some crabs and don't worry about the eggs! :D The first few clutches will probably not have very high hatch rates. Barring some type of disturbance, the new parents are likely to continue spawning every couple weeks, so you will have ample opportunities in the future.
