I could also order online but I'm not really sure what's considered good.

I'd check out BRS, buckeye field supply, spectrapure, airwaterice for an RO unit. Those are the most common places to buy an RO unit for this hobby.

I have a BRS 5 stage RO/DI unit and I'm happy with it.

If you plan on using it for your reef tank you are going to want a RO/DI system. If you want to also use it for drinking water simply put a valve and T on it before the DI resin. Check out airwaterice.com we have a 10% off coupon in the sponsor section.

Ah, thanks. Is the DI really necessary? What does it do that the RO doesn't? Also why cant you drink it once it's been DI?

I didn't look at the links, but I bought one from costco made by watts. Seems to work well for me. No di, but easy to setup, and change filter catridges. I think with 10 gal per week you can get by with changing the first two cartridges once every 6-12 months ($25 per time).

I have a AWAI Thypoon III extreme and I love it, it also has a tee tap uilt in for drinking RO water per DI.

Its not recommended to drink DI water cuz it has nothing left in it, most of which is benifial to us, however to make the best quality water for your tank you start with RO/DI (has nothing in it) then add salt (which has the right stuff in it) for the tank

I believe Mike is using the $200 4 stage unit from costco that you linked in. I've gotten water from him and it was just fine.

Personally i'm holding out for a spectrapure maxcap 90. Last week marine depot had them on sale for $250. i waffled and missed it. This week back up to $350. They have already advertised a 20% off on a spectrapure products in August. That should give me plenty of time to price check with LFS and maybe directly with spectrapure?

I've gone a different trail than most. I'm using an "on demand" GE Merlin system with a booster pump. I use a lot of drinking and tank water so it' nice to have plenty. I mix 50 gal of salt water at a time.

I bought the Typhoon III earlier this year and it works great. It's RO/DI but as Roc mentioned there's a DI bypass for producing drinking water. Super easy to install and maintain. And BAR members get a discount since they're one of our sponsors. Just go to the Air, Water, Ice sponsor forum for the discount code. This is the one I use:
