I'm guessing if u found it in the water around here it's cold water but I'm no expert.

There are the cold water species around here that wouldn't last in a reef tank, but according to Wikipedia there are tropical species as well. I was curious if anyone heard of these.
Nice short little thread. It doesn't sound like these are very popular in the trade.

Oh, it was already dead. I wouldn't trust taking anything straight from the ocean to my tank.

Never seen them at stores. Must be a reason why stores dont import to sell.

I'm very sure that if you found a sand dollar on the beach that it was already dead, those white things that litter beaches skeletons.
I seem to recall seeing them at Steinhart or Monterey aquariums... that or my memory is failing me and it was simply on some Planet Earth episode or something

The local wholesalers do get sand dollars with their east Africa shipments. If you have enough sand bed space...
