    Custom Tank vs. Pre-built?

OK, yeah. Blowing a seam is NOT what I want to hear. I'm glad we're having all these conversations, I'll eventually find something haha.

    Custom Tank vs. Pre-built?

Alright, the Reefer Peninsula is still a possibility (if it's still available). I just got a quote back from Reef Savvy for $5500 for a 48"x30"x21" tank (no stand). Quite a bit more expensive, but even if I could save up, is it worth it? I guess that's more of a personal question. Phantom...

Yeah, I have two of the originals. Should be good for now.

LF: UV Sterilizer (buy, optional borrow)

It depends on what kind of dino. The dinos I had were UV sensitive, so I just grabbed a big cheap Green Machine UV on amazon and ran it for a month and it worked great. I still have it if you want to borrow.

    Light Recommendations?

I've recently turned towards the ReeFi Uno! There's a 2.0 version coming out soon. It's compact but incredible. I have one over my Reefer 170 now. Supports even my magnifica anemone. It doesn't have any disco ball and very little light leak. I'll be running 2 of them over a 48" tank at some point.

    Custom Tank vs. Pre-built?

Thanks for the input there! I'm still waiting on CDA to get back to me on the quote. I may go that route afterall.

    Custom Tank vs. Pre-built?

Oh wow, great find on that Reefer 500. My Reefer 170 is pretty nice, and I never had issues (other than the drain valve being finicky). It's a bit longer than I wanted, but it's an internal overflow so I would make up the space that I would have needed for an external. I'm not ready for it, but...

    Custom Tank vs. Pre-built?

That's very true. I feel like I could get a custom tank for less with a much better overflow. I reached out to Crystal Dynamics for a quote, we'll see what they come back with. Reef Savvy doesn't seem to respond anymore to requests. Planet Aquarium seems to be a good one too. Any other more...

    kinetic Reefer 170

Well, it's been awhile. Tank has been fine. My bubble anemone split into 4 recently: Speaking of bubbles, somehow bubble algae got into the tank. I blame it on a mini colony I had awhile back. I'm not too worried because I'm taking down this tank soon for a home remodel (temporarily housing...

    Custom Tank vs. Pre-built?

I don't know who was here back when I had an ELOS 120, but I just went down the ELOS rabbit hole again. The ELOS 120XL is a beauty, with a very minimal overflow (which the company said they can build to order, which I would probably put in a different corner) and an incredible stand (ELOS...

    Custom Tank vs. Pre-built?

I saw that. It looks pretty good, but yeah, a little short for my liking.

    Custom Tank vs. Pre-built?

That's true. It doesn't really need to be as custom, other than the stand and maybe overflow. I'll keep looking for other possible pre-made just in case. Waterbox/Red Sea are the usuals, but maybe there's something else that's high quality. I've had an ELOS tank before, but that company seems to...

    Custom Tank vs. Pre-built?

I'm doing a little home remodel at the moment, and I'll have space for a 4' peninsula style tank in the home. I was thinking of the Waterbox Infinia 4825, but I'm not a fan of black stands or even their aluminum ones. I'm hoping for a white or maybe even the oak. The current plan is to get the...

    Closed loop for flow?

Thanks everyone, that's really great info! Interestingly, I was just thinking of doing a closed loop on one "wall" of the tank, no bulkheads/etc on the bottom. But maybe that defeats the purpose of a CL, and I might as well just go with some powerheads.

    Closed loop for flow?

I've been thinking about the next tank build, and I've thought about doing a closed loop for flow. I know we're all about the small powerheads and gyres these days, but I can't get over how clean a closed loop would be. I'm thinking of two DC pumps with one input and one output each. I'll use...

Well, that answers it then ;) I'll go for an Apex again!

    My next controller, recommendations?

I currently have a super old Apex Jr. controller, but I am planning on setting up a new system once I get my house remodeled (maybe complete by fall 2023). I'll probably just get the latest and greatest Apex this time, but was wondering if anyone had recommendations based on what I need...

Super old Apex Jr. having issues with FMM modules. Can't update firmware.

Update: I just started disconnecting things to see what actually was making things fail, and ultimately it was one of my DOS units. I stopped dosing anything awhile ago, so I have two just sitting there doing nothing. After disconnecting one, EVERYTHING ELSE STARTED TO WORK. This one DOS was at...

Super old Apex Jr. having issues with FMM modules. Can't update firmware.

I've been running a used Apex Jr., which is probably about 7 years old at this point. My VDM started doing a slow status blink, but after restarting it, it came back to life. My two other FMM modules both had fast blinking lights, but after unplugging and replugging both, they have solid status...

LF: Reef Octopus Varios 4-S controller for skimmer or EE board knowledge

This might be way too late, but I have a brand new VarioS 4 controller. It's not for a skimmer though, not sure if that's helpful. Let me know if you'd like it. I had to replace my pump, but didn't replace the controller.
