    Mastertronic users

I've got all three - Mastertronic, Alkatronic, and Dosetronic. I've only had them a few weeks, and am still fiddling. I'll probably post more detail in my tank journal when I get them all dialed in, but here are some thoughts so far: + It's SO NICE not having to test anything at all. N and P...

    Kennnnyyyyy

Swung by High Tide for the first time today and glad I did! It’s nice to have a good reef shop a bit closer than AC or Neptune. Especially one that will QT fish locally - we need to support and start ordering all of our fish at High Tide! Kenny is a cool guy and we spent a good bit of time...

    Clarisea Emergency

There's a large cutout allowing water to safely pass through the system in the event of a clog/malfunction. My water level sensor has stuck a couple times and this has happened. It's basically the same exact scenario as disabling the machine itself - so shouldn't be any harm. Appreciate the...

    Interesting, catastrophic in what sense?

6 days. I could do that...but would prefer not to.

    Clarisea Emergency

My UPS shipment from BRS is of course late and MIA and we are about to go on vacation with a roll nearly empty… Does anyone know a local LFS selling filter rolls for the Clarisea SK-5000? Or anyone local willing to sell me one? We leave in the morning - TY TY!

    Derek's 108gal (525xl)

Yeah I could see how powering the main unit off of the wifi strip could cause some weirdness. I bought a couple of these guys on Amazon to power the controllers and anything else that doesn't need a smart outlet...

@newfly I cut the power this morning and the whole system fired right back up with no issues or delays or weirdness. Everything in the correct status/schedule etc. Here's some shots of my config:

The XP8 is excellent. I also had some reliability concerns with my Wifi strip, which has now been relegated to powering less critical devices. I've hard-wired the XP8 to the Control4 with the data bus cable and turned the system into a "collective" so they operate as one and it's been rock...

Thanks man! You've been a big help already. Let's hope Tommy is a respectful and supportive boss :p

Awww, such a depressing take! Naming the fish is half the fun for the family. :D

I went with a Spears gate valve on the 525 since I was doing all custom plumbing anyway. I can't speak to the new Red Sea ones...but the Spears has been flawless, it's easy to dial in and allows for very minute adjustments. Big improvement over the Red Sea valve (not sure which version) that was...

    Derek's 108gal (525xl)

I've of course been adding some more fish as well. Here's the current fish list: From the original tank: Flower and Goldy, the Ocellaris Clowns Bakey, the Starry Blenny Baby Logan, the Cleaner Shrimp Added Since: Neo, the Dusky Wrasse Bluefish, the Leopard Wrasse Dora, the Flame Angel...

Here's the last shot of the tank on June 23rd before the transfer - filled with water, light hung: I performed the transfer in just a couple of hours on June 24th, the tank's official birthday. It was pretty hectic so I didn't get many pics, but everyone survived the move. I used the...

    Derek's 108gal (525xl)

As noted above, I knew almost immediately I'd be upgrading to a larger tank. I was inheriting a friend's old 525xl, decided to order the matching cabinet from Red Sea (big mistake...) and do all the plumbing myself (not a big mistake). I start aquascaping in the garage with a piece of plywood...

Hello - I am new to the hobby, starting a Red Sea 170 in February when a friend from the track convinced me I needed another money-sink of a hobby. As a sidenote - if you race/track motorcycles or are thinking about it, hit me up! I have been riding for many years and this is my other hobby...

Reminder to check your back up power options

You can add a fuel stabilizer to greatly extend the life of gasoline - I do this occasionally if I know a racebike will sit for a long time. Siphoning the gas out is technically best but it's a hassle. The small motors in these things generally do pretty well with crummy gas anyway. I use a...

    Undersize Skimmer with Fleece Roller?

I have a very similar setup - red sea 525xl, clarisea 5000 and nyos 120. the clarisea is incredible - there isn’t much left for the nyos to pick up, though it does pull some junk out. i’ve got 16 fish or so that get fed 3-5 times per day liberally and i struggle to keep nutrients above zero.

I would love to, but I will be away this weekend sadly. Awesome! What LFS do you frequent? I usually make the trek all the way to Aquatic Collection in Hayward, but man I wish there was a decent one closer…

Hello - I started a Reefer170 back in February, and have really fallen hard for the hobby. I just recently upgraded to a 525xl (my old stuff is in the sale forums!) and am in the process of stocking it. I did full a custom plumbing and sump and will start a build thread soon. I have a couple...
