Gravity fed ATO for my ATO need connection ideas

So you want the bulkhead for the container itself (lychee jelly box, and I hilariously know exactly the container you mean! (https://www.amazon.ca/Lychee-Coconut-Candy-Jelly-Container/dp/B0038KCCMS) Or you want it for the side of the sump? Does the sump already have the mechanical float valve...

How do you estimate the actual water volume in your tank?

Yes seems too far off for a 180+29 to only have 80g of water and you are probably right that my mix concentration might be wrong. I’ve not had to readjust as my kalk top off seems to be maintaining alkalinity for the few corals in the tank. As 80 seems a low guess, I’ll continue to use that...

If CO2 is heavier than air, is it worth it to make a snorkel for your skimmer to pull air from above the tank?

Off topic, but some Russian i fluencer had a birthday party at a spa and her husband tossed huge chunks of dry ice into the hot tub. It made a lot of “smoke” and three people, including th husband, jumped in. Two of them die as they surfaced and took in lungfuls of co2 instead of air. Everyone...

If CO2 is heavier than air, is it worth it to make a snorkel for your skimmer to pull air from above the tank?

I had thought about a hole in the wall then down into the crawlspace too. But then the idea of just a snorkel hit me. But I guess I'll borrow the CO2 meter at some point to see if there is actually an indoor spot near the tank that can be used. Along the lines of your idea ... a line to the...

If CO2 is heavier than air, is it worth it to make a snorkel for your skimmer to pull air from above the tank?

Ah cool, I was wondering if we had a CO2 meter. Long hose is fine, but "putting a hole in the house" is quite a different issue! V

If CO2 is heavier than air, is it worth it to make a snorkel for your skimmer to pull air from above the tank?

As the title asks ... if CO2 is heavier than air, then would it be worth it to attach a simple hose to your skimmer's air intake and just place the input of the hose up high, like above your canopy, instead of down low in the sump? OR would it make absolutely no difference. I've heard of people...

    Skimmer sizing

I bought a used Skimz skimmer, it has a DC pump that failed. I pulled out the whole skimmer, went back to my 20 year old AquaC EV120 and it's Mag5, which has run continuously for 20 years except for a month of the Skimz skimmer. I bought a replacement AC pump for the Skimz, which has slightly...

    Skimmer sizing

I never really understood why there are ratings for skimmers. A good skimmer just pulls out organics if organics are there to be pulled out. If the skimmer is "oversized" then, that's fine, it will provide more oxygenating agitation, but it will pull out whatever is there. If the skimmer is...

    BRSTv recommended water test kits

I was just watching BRSTv and they were discussing what things they would never buy again, including the Hanna Nitrate checker, but then they went on to recommend their favorite test kits, I thought I'd share that here; Alkalinity - Hanna Alk Checker - this has been recommended by many people...

How do you estimate the actual water volume in your tank?

Hi Randy. I mixed the BRS Soda Ash, following their instructions... 2 1/3rd cup soda ash with 1 gallon of water. I pulled down Soda Ash on the product drop down. Now here's the interesting thing. Having worked out 80g water, I took another Alk reading and got 7.7-8.0 (depending the color of the...

Videos on glueing in corals so that they stay

I agree, and since super glue cures underwater, I can imagine after attaching the frag, you put it under water and that could help it stay safe for the coral.

How do you estimate the actual water volume in your tank?

I decided I better keep up on alk & calcium, etc, so I went to use the BRS online calculator for how much CA/ALK solution to add to the tank and of course, I know how large my tank and sump are, but not everything is water. I estimated, then used the calculator and dosed alk (soda ash) and the...

Videos on glueing in corals so that they stay

I mentioned it elsewhere, but if you have super runny glue, what you can do is make a pile of baking soda, soak it with the runny superglue and stick the coral frag into it, the baking soda & superglue will harden into a rock.

    Mangrove Care!

I've killed about 60 of them. Or rather I've tried to grow 3 sets of 20 mangroves and failed. So ... don't ask me!

    Mounting multiple sps frags

If you took a single stick of SPS, and cut it into 4 pieces and glued them to rock a few inches apart., they would slowly encrust the rock and meet while also growing upwards. If you do want to glue a single SPS stick, I prefer to glue it horizontally. I believe that encrusting or horizontal...

Reefer stand help needed (was Reefer gap)

Did you take the whole thing apart already? If so, can you see if that one leg (attached to nothing else) will connect without a gap if it's just attached by itself? Attaching just this leg to the top will at least tell you if it's a matter of the other pieces causing the leg to not make...
