Hornberson Reef - DSA 90 gallon mixed reef

Thanks for the offer on the pumps. I'll gladly take a loaner MP40 for a few weeks if someone has one, but otherwise don't sweat it. I'm using the RHF Two Part #2 dosing recipe, which is much less concentrated than some dosing regimes (just baking soda and calcium chloride).

    NEW TO BAR

Welcome! I hope you post some pictures of your tank, the Elos are a beautiful setup - especially that size.

    How big is too big!?!

It's been an awesome upgrade to our 36x24x26 90 gal from our first 29gal nano tank. We're able to keep much more interesting fish and the tank is a lot more stable. However, I was struck by how much larger things are when I switched to 25 gal water changes from 5 gal buckets. It's also a lot...

Hornberson Reef - DSA 90 gallon mixed reef

I've done some aggressive fragging the last week or two: gave away and fragged 2/3 of the hollywood stunner colonies (one of them was growing right up against the glass so I couldn't scrape without breaking off pieces), and trimmed the purple/green montis that grow the most aggressively. All of...

    Idaho grape monti.

I've got some frags of this as well, remind me tonight when you stop by.

    FluidDynamics Green Monti Cap

It sure looks like what I have. I got mine as an unofficial DBTC from @newhobby with a bunch of other corals. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same strain from within the club.

[January 16, 2016] Introduction to Aquarium Photography Workshop

Big Thanks to @Enderturtle ! The class was a great overview of the factors of good photography and some interesting ideas about improving it: color filters, submersible camera tubes, maybe HDR or post-processing. Big thanks to CA Reef Co for sharing their space, it was a nice side room that...

    Idaho grape monti.

I wanted to say thank you to @siokoy for providing me a frag of this a year or so ago. It's thrived and kept a great color in our tank. We now have one big colony bigger than my head and one smaller secondary colony. I've given frags of this informally to other club members on DBTC to try and...

Hollywood Stunner Chalice in Mountain View

I believe @<3-2-reef grabbed a frag of this at the photo workshop today.

Well, it's all yours if you'd like it. I might be able to drop it off tomorrow or Monday if that works. I owe you one for the pump.

[January 16, 2016] Introduction to Aquarium Photography Workshop

I saved my handout of the slides if you'd like my copy. The orange filters seem like a great idea for aquarium shooting in blue light. I bought a Canon orange filter lens that screws over the kit lens. Haven't had time to play with it yet, but for $8 it seems like a nice accessory for DSLR...

Hollywood Stunner Chalice in Mountain View

I also have a small frag of the purple montipora capriconis that I accidentally fragged while I was working on the biggest stunner colony today. Someone asked me about this at the meeting today, but I forget who it was (@wfong perhaps?). I'm usually happy to provide a small frag of red, green...

MH / LED usage in 2016

Thanks for sharing your experience and advice. It's always good to put what people say in the context of how ambitious their tank is and how long it's been running. By that token, I'm always eager to hear what @Kmooresf has to say. How do you find the time scale is for moving coral to a new...

Hollywood Stunner Chalice in Mountain View

I gave away a colony and all the frags of stunner I have, but I was inspired to frag another colony so there are 3-4 more medium sized pieces and some small pieces of folks want some. @dochou gets first dibs, but there's enough for another 2-3 more folks.

Hollywood Stunner Chalice in Mountain View

Are you going to be at CA Reef Co for the meetup tomorrow? I'll bring you the last frag of the Hollywood Stunner if so.

All work and no play makes Jack...

I forgot about installing a power strip! This was one of my early huge improvements: Buy a hard-mounted power strip with individual switches for each plug, like the American DJ series: You can install it in your cabinet or nearby and allows you to individually turn on/off any part of the...

MH / LED usage in 2016

The A350 Kessils draw 90W of power. The biggest issue with LEDs that folks don't often talk/think about are lenses - choosing the right lensing for your tank is important. My current 90g tank is 26" from top to bottom, so the wide angle Kessil's don't penetrate as well as the narrow lenses...

Hollywood Stunner Chalice in Mountain View

I'm going to be at the BAR meeting at CA Reef Co on Saturday, so we can meet up there or pick up at our place in Mountain View another time this weekend. There are currently one medium sized piece of Hollywood Stunner left (also a largish colony, reserved for @Newjack).
