    Kyle's 40G sps Reef

Heh! Tank is up and running, and even has a few corals in it! Typical though, my little one is taking up all the time, and the tank is getting very little attention. One of these days I'll get the pics loaded and get some shots on here. Since the tank is fairly stable, and my test corals...

Name this fish: Whats small, cute, full of personality. and eats macroalgae

one last thought - what about a flame fin tomini tang...stay's relatively small, and good algae eater. (although, I agree, rabbits do a fantastic job at algae control!)

    Earthquake!!!! Everybody panic!!!!

heh - you all should have seen the panic in my office this past fall when the earthquake hit the east coast...it was barely a shake and folks acted like the sky was falling!

    Kyle's 40G sps Reef

Ok - good news, power lines are now run - I have a full dedicated 20 Amp for the tank and a second line that I can also run to, i.e. keep at least one powerhead on another line, just in case! Messaged my local reef board and will have a few folks donating a piece of LR/sand/chaeto to get...

Need advice on removing stablish sandbed out

to add to the discussion - I also did the "remove some at each water change" method...I think I actually removed a 6" x 6" area each change, that allowed me to remove about 5G of water, and I removed this amount once or twice a week. Then, just a small waterchange and all set. Actually...

    Kyle's 40G sps Reef

ok - let's get back to real discussions - hoping to get lines run in the next 2-3 weeks...Tank is set up, just needs power.... So, back on the real issues. 1) How to cycle since all the rock is dead. 2) QT for fish and/or corals 3) Fish selection 4) coral selection 5) placement of...

    Kyle's 40G sps Reef

Heh - if it happens, my build will be here...my first and only true reef home! Plus, I'm going to have a ton of questions to ask you folks, so that I get this right the first time! I'll just build out my 40g and hopefully grow a few nice corals and keep a trio of fish. Then, maybe in a few...

    Kyle's 40G sps Reef

we might have a potential breakthrough...the wife misses the tank and thinks that our little boy would really like it. We have a friend who is an electrician and he came to take a look at the panel and there is a shot that we may just run two outlets, 15 or 20A each to the tank, and might...

    Kyle's 40G sps Reef

OK - no real changes in the tank, in, I hate to admit it, the past 5 months. The tank is standing in the bedroom, the dry rock has been aquascaped, but no water, no power, etc. We've come to realize that there is a small dilemma...our house only has 100 amps, and our bedroom is only run with...

ID please (I think I got it from Gomer)

It looks very similar to the Gomezi that I sold from my 180g tank...I dont remember who bought it. Anyone? I sold or shared a few frags, in addition to the colony...

muriatic acid to clean base rocks.

Rommel, I did it. Washed all rocks that I took with me to Philly in Muriatic acid. dont remember the concentration I used, but put all the rocks in a 45G can, mixed water and acid, and let sit for a few hours, rinse and repeat. Then rinsed and let sit out to dry. I now have "clean" dry rock...

    best high head pump

I think the total head is 12-14 feet, just not totally sure, until anything is actually built! Again, this would be for a 40-90 gallon tank, and I'd want 250 to 400 GPH going through it...I want this tank to be quiet, since its in the bedroom. Finally found the camera battery charger, so...

    best high head pump

Looking for a pump to push from basement to the ground floor. I will probably just use this pump to push to the display tank, and a second high flow pump for all the remaining parts, that would not have to flow vertical feet. Looking for flow of 250-400 GPH, since the tank is small. Price...

T5 HO Light Fixture suggestions wanted

Dan, I would stick with the TEK fixture or one of the ATI fixtures, if you require a fixture. I cant speak for the last 3 you mentioned, as I have never owned any of those models. Also, any of the retrofit kits would work equally well. 8 bulbs will be plenty, and will reduce your heat...

    Corner Aquarium?

Mitch - I had a 4x3x2 previously, and love the 36" of depth. Not sure the space I have in mind can support that size of tank though. I also need to get in the basement, and check out the space I have for the sump, etc. before I would consider something that size. Wife wants this tank to be...
