    Float switch failure

The two risks are backwards IMO. Risk 1 - not enough top off - worst case is you will get some bubbles in tank before you notice and fix things Risk 2 - too much top off - worst case is you kill your livestock and flood your house Make sure you have much more protection for Risk 2. I would...

Karma bites back - Uronema on my Pictilis Anthias

Well an update is in order - I have two living females. One was the smallest from the original shipment- and the second is a replacement I got shipped to me right away for the original first doa. I kept the replacement in a dipping bucket(heater, airstone, 99%water change daily with cp, metro...

Karma bites back - Uronema on my Pictilis Anthias

1 female is still alive and kicking with no sign of infection so far, and still in the same QT tank. I am hoping the metro killed off the buggers before it got to her.

What is considered stable for parameters?

Bad numbers that change slowly and infrequently, are better than good numbers that change fast and often

    Coral keeping cheat sheet

ah, got to read carefully - I first saw the table and it looked like it was saying that SPS needs low light, low flow, best for novices..

Karma bites back - Uronema on my Pictilis Anthias

Same, my recent dd purchase is heathy as can be. They also quickly honor the 14 day guarantee, no questions asked, so in some sense, this quick killing wipeout is better off for me. But it still sucks losing fish like this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Interesting skimmer design, plug n play, no adjustments

I don't see any fresh air going into it, so I would venture to say there is "0" O2 exchange going on.

Who splurged on their tanks this weekend?

splurge? no way, these are all necessary expenses :)

Karma bites back - Uronema on my Pictilis Anthias

My early optimism just went pop :( 2 fish died in the past 2 hours even though they didn't look worse on the outside. I am not sure the medicine is getting inside their bodies, so for all the fish that were already infected internally, I don't know if I can save them. And now, even if any of...

Karma bites back - Uronema on my Pictilis Anthias

They do look to be vertical lines. I wonder if this fish got scratched with a net when it was being cought in the wholesalers tank. No new fish deaths yet, so looks like the 80mg/gal cp + 25 mg/gal metro is helping.

Karma bites back - Uronema on my Pictilis Anthias

I took great advantage of a Thanksgiving sale to pick up a bunch of Pictilis Anthias for a really great price - 60% off normal! It might cost me more in the end. I ordered 5 females and 1 male. One of the females was DOA, less than 24 hours in the bag. Sounds suspicious. A couple of the fish...

Reliable Heaters? (eheim jagers consistently crapping out)

I have qt tanks in the garage and I keep the door to the house propped open to keep it heated. My gas bill is much much less than electric bill and this helps a lot. As a side note, I have ~20 ehim jaeger heaters and only one has ever failed(water got inside somehow). Sent from my iPhone...

I really hate MAP policy... (mini-rant)

Ah, this thread got me shopping. :( I just lucked out on a loss leader online, and picked up 5 Pictilis Anthias for 60% off of the best price I've seen before (shipping included). Either the price has dropped a lot on these, or someone is taking a haircut on this sale. I am not sure this...

Interesting filter / toilet paper dispenser

I'd like to see it in action after a few months use... if anyone gets one going, they are automatically a stop in the next tank tour ;)

I really hate MAP policy... (mini-rant)

I think the thing that everyone can get behind is that deceptive advertising/etc, just plain sucks

I really hate MAP policy... (mini-rant)

As a consumer, I love transparency and MAP pricing. This allows great LFS, such as Robert, to be in business and have displays of neptune/kessil/etc that I can go and make a better buying decision. If MAP was gone, competitive pricing is the driving factor so the cheapest crappiest customer...

    seasonal fish problems?

I've had bouts with velvet, brook, ich, possibly vibro, uronema, possible cyanide poisoning, etc, so mainly everything :( What I see recently is worse than a little ich on the tangs; in the best stores, in almost every tank/system, I am seeing at least one fish that I know will be dead before...

    seasonal fish problems?

The past few times I have gone to any LFS, I noticed that obvious fish disease seem to be much more pronounced now than I historically remember. Given that I have spent a huge amount of time/effort to get disease/parasite free fowlr tanks, I am afraid to touch the new fish. I am curious if...
