    tubs blue zoo's

I got this about 7 years ago. I guess I can keep SOMETHING alive! haha. Anyway, currently I have too many frags of it and need to give some away. Anyone want a piece? I'll bring a few to the meeting today just in case.

    Cymen's 20G tall

I'm not sure if it's cyano. It was my first thought too but this is a brighter pink than I usually expect (usually it's more of a deep red) and cyano requires light. Do you have light over the sump or is it usually dark there? Once you're sure of where you want the baffles I would get some...

    Cymen's 20G tall

Are you asking about the pink stuff? Maybe cyanobacteria? I'm curious what the white plastic things are? Are they holding the baffles?

[January 16, 2016] Introduction to Aquarium Photography Workshop

I'll be there. Looking forward to it! @Enderturtle, can I pick up the frag for the grow-out cost from you then too?

All work and no play makes Jack...

Sump Sink! It's not a real sink. It's just a small acrylic box (I seem to be into those lately) with a bulkhead in the bottom, plumbed via a trap to the sewer. No more lugging buckets of water to the toilet for water changes!

    Micro Top-off Reservoir

Yeah I've considered using a solenoid/timer to limit overflows in case of a float valve failure, but I'm unsure how much more reliable the solenoid would be than the float valve. Probably some? Maybe a lot? Not sure. I have the same issue with my saltwater mixing tank (still in the aformentioned...

    Micro Top-off Reservoir

I'm in Point Richmond, so my water comes from EBMUD. Incoming TDS right now is 61. Interesting to hear about the differences around the bay. I knew SF also has great water quality from Hetch Hetchy, but I didn't realize the south bay was so different. Of course, DI-only would work anywhere, but...

    Micro Top-off Reservoir

Today I was looking at my cramped aquarium closet and realized that I really have no need for a large top-off reservoir. The old reservoir was a 3 gallon bucket and just took up too much space, so out it went! I decided to make a new one that's much, much smaller. In fact, it's smaller than a...

First Time Snorkeling on a Wild Reef

Seeing familiar creatures in their natural habitat is one of my favorite things about snorkeling/diving too. I've been diving a couple places (Fiji and Tahiti) that have incredible coral too. When you work hard over a year or two to grow a tiny frag into a 6"-8" coral, then see a colony of the...

    New DIY Controller

The particle docs are great, but for Modulo we have higher level docs on purpose since it's a higher level product. For most Modulos you shouldn't need to look at the schematic to use it. (The Blank Slate is perhaps an exception where a schematic might be nice). I definitely appreciate the...

    New DIY Controller

@rygh: cool! I hope you have fun with it. I'd love to hear more about what you'd like to see in terms of product summaries and data sheets. There's a description of each product on the store and full API docs at docs.modulo.co. I've been had my head it in so long it's kind of hard for me to...

    New DIY Controller

Thanks everybody! Glad you like it. @Flagg37: I think it's a lot easier than building a comparable system with individual components, but it's still DIY so programming, debugging and a bit of soldering are required. For me that makes it more fun but it's not everyone's cup of tea. It's also not...

    New DIY Controller

I designed and sell a modular DIY electronics platform called Modulo. Recently I built a new aquarium controller using it, and just today I finished a write-up about that project. Please take a look if you're interested. http://www.modulo.co/projects/modulo-aquarium-controller I swear I'm not...

    One more time...

I think 82 is higher than most people run their tanks. I recently decided to start running at 80 but I previously always keep it at 78. If you do end up needing cooling, fans pointed at the water surface are quite effective and way less expensive than a chiller.
