    LED Light on my Pico...

I agree w/ previous posts- I think you have potentially too much light, but depends on what corals you want to keep. for the form factor of your tank you could go with a small LED strip; reefbrite 8", panoramic or similar ones. For using your PAR38 I'd go w/ no optics at first and see how it...

    Blue Hornets

Zero- sorry if there's any confusion. I updated the African blue hornet DBTC thread with the correct picture of the African blue hornets. The incorrect picture in that thread was of the blue hornets and I then used it for starting this new DBTC thread.

    Blue Hornets

I've got a 3 polyp frag of Blue hornets for DBTC- the 3 in a row on the upper right of the plug. The only 2 rules are you must have some success growing zoa and you must give 2 back to DBTC before selling or trading. Pick a # from 1-10, pickup a BAR meeting on 6/8.

    African Blue Hornet Palys

It was pointed out that the picture I posted a few days ago was the regular blue hornets, which I made a separate dbtc chain for, not African Blue Hornets. So I updated the picture so it's accurate. Charles can't make it to the meeting so i'm going down the list and the next # is 9, so...

    African Blue Hornet Palys

These zoas have made it through a couple tank transfers to be certified as 'hardy' in my book. Through all this I finally got enough to grow out and put some on a frag plug which has 3 on the top and more on the side. Sorry for the dark pic- my regular light is broken, but you can still see...

    coral growth rates

Good question, it's not one that can be easily answered as there are many variables as mentioned already. One thing you can do is find out what other people with the same coral types get for their growth rate. For encrusting monti's they almost grow too fast for me, birdsnest also grows like a...

Tank Journal for Jim in Mountain View 220gal

I have a 180 and before I redid it I had 5 green chromis do well for 2+ years. None in the group showed much aggression nor prevented one from eating. They all grew to adult size. With that said my 1st attempt adding chromis was an utter failure since 4 of the 5 dissapearred within 2 days...

    New member (me) Jim

+1 to joining BAR, the $30 is well worth it. The stand does look shaky but you've done your homework, good for you doing it differently while keeping it strong enough. You have space under the tank for a sump and a refugium, which you could make into a display if you wanted since you have...

What chemistry questions would you like to ask June's speaker Craig Bingman ?

My questions are about Alkalinity; it's importance, what signs do corals show it if it's low or high and is there a problem if it consistently high, like around 11 dKh.

    180 Custom Gallon Starfire

nice open look, I like the aquascaping. Plus having the glass so clean really makes a difference.

A throw back of what the shop used to look like...

I remember the old days too, the white T5 lighting and a pretty barren looking store. Looking back it's amazing at how much it's changed, it shows that a bunch of incremental improvments over time ends up as a huge upgrade.

    South Bay Tank Tour!!

makes sense to me, the early afternoon tour sounds like a good plan. So would the plan be to do tours between appx. 1-4pm? and then windup @ Neptunes at the end ~4:30pm ish?

    Dosing pump ideas?

I've had litermeter III for about 4-5 years and have no complaints with it, it's been a workhorse for me. I use it for top off, calcium & alk. The only problem is the alk dries up/ precipitates & clogs up the line so I have to clear it out regularly. If I were starting anew I'd probably go...

20 gallon long AIO nano reef

I like scape #2. you can also start a tank w/o live rock by using bacteria in a bottle, ensures no pests. It's somewhat common using no live rock, check out the display tank @ neptunes, not a piece of live rock. just throwing out this as an idea, it's worked well enough for me.

BAR Guest Speaker Craig Bingman for June 8th Meeting

looking forward to it. water parameters & chemistry are always something I seem to struggle with, so many to keep track of and knowing the relative importance of each will be a plus.
