Any thermostat can fail, smart or not, and both kinds tend to fail 'off' if/when there's a problem. I have a nest - agree that its "smart" adjustments aren't worth fighting with, but since I let the house get a little cool overnight, it's nice to be able to crank up the heat without getting out...

So far my place isn't in any of the affected map zones, so if there's anything I can do to help reefers affected by this - bringing gear or gas or holding fish (I've got a 29g holding tank up and running) or whatever, just send me a pm.

Afaik texas holey rock are a sort of limestone - calcium-based like most of the rocks we use in reef tanks. There's always a chance of contaminants using materials of unknown origin a reef tank, but in all likelihood safe to use after rinsing off the limestone dust.

Nawwww, the Blood Orange (maroon / occ hybrid) clowns are great fish. Big showy fins, not super mean, don't get enormous... the digging is a minor annoyance.

Also something kinda large and super creepy fell out of a rock as I lifted it, dropped down onto the not-busted part of the aquascape, and crawled into a hole... didn't get a really good look... a problem for another day

Whoooah, yeah I meant the rock structure fell apart. There's no center brace to deal with on this eurobraced tank.
