xCry0x's Red Sea Max 250 Reboot

Had a bit of what I beleive were dinos show up last week. Iv been actively disturbing the sand bed throughout the week and think that may have caused it. I quit stirring the sand, started dosing mb7, and quit trying to blow it off the rocks. Seems to have fully cleared up in about 4 days...

Getting tired of testing and adjusting Alk/Ca. Trident?

Big jumps in consumption can also be due to precipitation; just something to consider. It can happen where your tank seems like it's consuming an insane amount of alk/ca. Not something I'm super in tune with. I just know I had an issue a few years ago where my tank was consuming a rediculous...

Getting tired of testing and adjusting Alk/Ca. Trident?

Could you share more about how you are going about dosing and adjusting? What you described sounds like you are doing something wrong. How much are you dosing? What did your tank look like? (Fully grown in sps, etc).

Protein skimmer & water parameters questions

I have 7 small fish in a 65g and skim wet. After cleaning the cup i can fill half of it in 24 hours with a light brown tea. Reef octopus bh-2000. My nitrates are consistently at around 1 ish and po4 around 0.06 ish. Can say from experience, the better skimmer pulls way more. I had an...

    Pin wheel impeller broken

How on earth does an impeller cost $200? You have to replace it, there is no way glue would hold.

    Another bare bottom question...

I had them in my tank prior to adding sand back in. They will just go under rocks. Definitely survive. Really no purpose though. Their main benefit is stirring sand imo.

Insight into 'middle men' ala fish wholesalers.

I think part of the problem is also how people view fish versus other pet animals. Could you imagine walking into petsmart and there just being a random dead cat in their cat cage? You walk into a fish store and it is fairly common to see dead and/or dying fish in a tank. I had a bit of a...

    Went to aquatic collection.....

Awesome, they definitely are one of the top stores in the Bay area from my experience. Really clean, well stocked operation. And it shows by how busy they usually are.

    Converting to bare bottom

I mean its really about patience. And its HARD to be patient for a year. You buy all this fancy new stuff and its not exactly fun to turn it all on and then have it look like a planted tank for a year :p The way I'd approach it, personally, is that if I ever had the thought that I might want...

    Converting to bare bottom

I wouldn't really consider getting rid of ammonia cycling a tank unless your goal is just to run a FOWLR tank. The difficulty is in getting it stable enough to support coral and not have new patches of unexpected "oh no what is that" popping up every couple days :p

    Converting to bare bottom

BRS has put out some interesting content across the past year or two. They had a pretty lengthy discussion around Bare Bottom vs Sand. The benefits of bare bottom are really obvious -- all the fish poop either directly floats into a skimmer/mechanical filtration, or it clumps up in a certain...

xCry0x's Red Sea Max 250 Reboot

So my second goby disappeared pretty much immediately, I assumed it went into my rear chamber. Was looking at the tank today. Saw it sitting in the skimmer . Got it out, back in the tank. Lol..

    First Reefing adventure.. 65G AIO

How are your fish doing? That list is one that looks like it's going to be difficult to sustain. Chromis are notorious for being bought in groups like that and then killing eachother as they mature. Similarly, damsels and clowns are fairly notorious for killing eachother.

xCry0x's Red Sea Max 250 Reboot

Some new additions. Not sure what happened, if it was old age or what. But woke up to my midas blenny dead earlier this week. Fairly odd. Either way, since I have a sand bed again, I figured I should grab a solid sand dwelling wrasse. I decided on a yellow coris wrasse and my LFS happened to...

    Tangs, Tank dimensions, water volume

Overall swimming space. You wouldn't throw a 12" hippo tang in a bio cube plumbed into a 500g system and try to argue that its fine since there is 529g of volume. Similarly, a 280 tank absolutely jammed full of live rock and giant coral colonies would also give limited space for a large fish to...

Light change from AI Hydra 52HD to EcoTech Radion X15 PRO? Or Other?

If I was buying new lights today, it would be one of the t5 led hybrids. Think the t5s make up for a lot of the deficits of leds, then the leds give you precision control of the actual color of the overall lighting that you can only control in broad strokes with t5 bulbs. That said the best...

Fragging a leather coral, anyone want a large show piece?

The hard part with toadstools is getting them on a frag plug since they are slimey. Also run carbon when you chop it off.

Fragging a leather coral, anyone want a large show piece?

I'd be interested in either the entire thing or a frag; looking for a nice long polyp leather for my tank and wouldn't mind something larger to immediately fill in space. In my experience, a happy leather can be borderline invasive. The leftover tissue can/will grow into more leathers. I cut a...

xCry0x's Red Sea Max 250 Reboot

More corals Picked up 2 caps, forest fire & bubblegum digis, slineball acro, purple stylo, and a small pink boobies chalice piece - all from Mike in Livermore. Should give me some good stuff to get started with how now. Hoping they all take to my tank and grow! The birdsnest I got the other...
