    Top off reservoir ideas

Petco is doing a 50% off thing right now. So a 20 gallon tank is 25 bucks, snag the matching glass lid and you got a 20 gallon reservoir for under 50$.

Thanks! This tank has certainly surpassed any expectations of what my harem tank would look like. Beyond stoked to watch this thing fill in.

Well everything’s settled in and the nems are becoming more open. The yellow tang is beyond pleased to have this much room and I’m finally happy to get her out of the 40 breeder as this is by far a better forever home.

Good to know, wasn’t sure but I’ve used lifegard pumps in the past and they were definitely decent for the price.

That’s how I I did it. Got a 1 gallon jug and timed how long it took to fill, then maths, close enough haha.

It’s not too small and will work. Most things I’ve read require 180,000µw/cm2 to actually disrupt the dna of protozoan so with that size uv and about 30-35 gallons of water involved a flow rate of 100-150gph should be a good place to start. I’m hoping others can chime in and maybe we can get a...

Help with dinoflagellate ID and process

For what you want to do which is basically fry the little critters there’s a chart out there for how much flow to run through it but the jist of it is. Higher flow is great for keeping algae down and slower flow will disrupt protozoan reproduction. If you tell us total water volume and wattage...

Help with dinoflagellate ID and process

Yep that tactic has worked for many people. When getting a UV imo there’s only 2 real options. Pentair and Aqua UV, both are great and I chose Aqua UV do to it’s price point being a bit easier to swallow as a good quality UV is not cheap but definitely don’t waste your money on the cheap ones as...

    ALK consumption

I lose about 1.5dkh daily and I imagine if I switched from a mixed reef to all sps that number would climb even higher.

It’s true, all rated for 125 gallons. Going to see how it does as it’s just a place for a fuge and skimmer. Flow is 5x tank volume so we should be good as long as I don’t blast the tank with food though on my 40 breeder I could just dump in food and with the combo of the fuge/skimmer/algae...

Final thing to hook up is the apex. It’s a super old unit so all I have it do is monitor PH and Temp as it’s definitely had some connectivity issues I’d rather not deal with if I had everything hooked up.

They came from 3 tiny babies many years ago. I’ve sold off quite a few over the years. These things grow really well for me.

The work is done! Tidied up the cords a bit and hooked up the lighting last night. Was way too tired and just crashed out but I just woke up to a happy tank so all is well!
