The GHA palace - taking care of a work tank

It can rare to find something that will eat algae that mature - it needs to be cropped down. I would get a hang on tank filter, or a canister filter, then scub the rocks in place with a tooth brush, and catch as much as you can with a net for removal, and let the filter filter much of the rest...

Avoiding bringing in pest algae from inverts?

Eradication, or pre prevention, of stuff is really hard. Three days is not enough. To be effective you likely need several tanks to transfer animals to, for at least several weeks each. I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze, and mors people that qt for stuff like this don't squeeze...

Are CO2 Calcium Reactors out of favor nowadays?

I filled a 20# cylinder on 8/5 at Airgas and it was 47 dollars. Tank swap out. There have been roumors of CO2 supply chain issues, so maybe prices are going up. 4445 Oakport St Oakland, CA 94601 (510) 533-9353

    Aptasia Eaters Peppermint Shrimp

Don't try to inject kalk - it is a pita and if you miss the nem shriks up and vanishes. Mix up kalk with fresh water (ior use f aiptasia) so it is the consistency of tooth paste. Turn off your pumps. Using a syringe with no needle, smother the aips with the paste, covering them completely...

Are CO2 Calcium Reactors out of favor nowadays?

Most new tanks are not 'large' and dosing is an affordable way to keep up one smaller tanks without the extra foot print of a reactor and co2 bottle. Mostly though, I think there is a recent push for bottled solutions to reef needs - they seem easier. Neither way is better or easier, just...

    Rich's home tank

A day isn't enough time. I want to know a week out. The pressure switch and the pH alarm are fine, but will only give an alert a day or two before the tank is bone dry. Looking like a scale is the way most folks go, without automation. I like the floating idea, but I don't like the extra work...

    Arin's Reefer-S 850 Build

Bummer. If you are going to do this right, qt every fish that comes in to you in the future, no matter where you get it. I think the idea of getting a disease from a coral or a rock is a one in a million deal, so I wouldn't bother qt that stuff for fish disease. Because I know you worry, you...

    Rich's home tank

Hi Jon, What I really want to do is hook a scale up to the APEX, put the co2 tank on the scale, and have the APEX alert me when the tank reaches X weight so I know it is almost empty. I talke to someone about it once, but never followe up. Any ideas? Thanks!

    GHL or Apex

I like to recommend apex because they are localish, which can make a world of difference if you have issues. The feels like it is in a happy meal construstion often confuses me because what are you doing to the equipment that requires it to be more robust and can justify the extra expense and...
