I suppose it's proper to offically start this thread hear as a continuation of the dialouge began in the bst fourm concerning this tank linked below.

Just to be clear I don't have the tank yet. I expect to began the proccess sometime this month.

Yet the issues with this tank and the Palythoas and the palytoxin risk I feel may possibly be helpful as a refrence point to someone else in the future.

So based on many conversations about how to safely remove the Palythoa rocks from this tank. I have obtained 3 55 gallon food grade screw top barrels. I wanted to wait but I couldn't pass up the chance to get these, and they were far cheaper than totes and other options would have been.

The addtion of them being water tight with gaskets helps me not need to worry about vapors escaping once they are sealed up. Plan is to careful place rocks in these without water. For travel to my house where I will than add water and bleach them.

I would not have the means to lift these full of rocks and water even with help. Rocks alone should be easily done with 2 people to lift them.

These buckets will eventually be my own rodi storage and mixing Station once bleaching process is done.

The tank comes with two barrels that were part of that system, They have holes in them for the plumbing already so wouldn't be air tight for transport.

Those coming with the tank I plan to either trade, sale cheaply, pay it foward - still undecided yet. (This Is in no way a sales pitch, however if you may be intrested in them at some point let me know)

As far as gear l have have on the my future Amazon list for safely:

25 inches long for scraping/cutting the Palythoas of the tanks glass while still submerged.

For safe removal of the Palythoa rocks.

For respiratory protection, $29 for two of masks with filters including carbon.

This pump I already have, it works so well I can't use it on my 32biocube for water changes for a 200 gallon tank it would be a heck of alot faster than a gravel vacum.

Currently my pump has a 5 nylon hose only to move water to/from buckets right next to the tank.

The practical plan I'm leaning towards is to not risk dumping 150+ gallons of potential contaminated water in their backyard using their existing hard plumbed water change system.

I plan to add 25 ft hose to the 5ft one already on the pump using the double barbed fitting in later picture. I this it's better to drain the water in to a sink, tub, or a toliet even. To keep their dog safe that plays in their back yard.

So the rest of this saftey gear I will grab soon.

Good bit of labor to do, but it'll be worth it!

In addition to the advice here, when you start working on your fish stocking plan there's an excellent thread here on Humblefish to make sure your stocking plan will work/you'll minimize issues between fish.

All fish in 65 are making the journey over to new tank in future, so no thoughts on fish yet lmao.

New tank is coming with fish I won't be keeping, someone prememptively reached out to me about them but nothing is locked in offically yet. So they would be available as well.

IMHO
I would toss and or dry paly rocks for later use
Safety first
But I have touched way more paly rocks than I can remember
With much less “fear” with no I’ll effects
Gloves and eyewear are recommended
More for the bristleworms and the unseen vermetid snails

Paly toxin IS real and dangerous
Just don’t lick your fingers or wipe your face while doing the deed
Good luck

Tank was successfully broken down. Palythoas were scraped/ cut from the glass. Palythoa rocks removed in totes ready for bleach soak for a week.

Sump rocks were saved and plan to keep them wet and live no Palythoas on them.

Fish and select coral rescued. Hopefully the 32 biocube #2 i set up last night is sufficent for them until I can sale/ rehome most of them

I would have probably been in over my head without the awesome help of @Coral reefer. Otherwise it would have taken 2-3 times longer to do than I was expecting.

We even managed to get the entire tank moved from the house to the garage for easier pick up.
