Any roadbikers here?

Looking to get a road bike but have some hesitations. I already have a MB that I built a while back. I'm spoiled with it because I built it full XT when XT was the second tier right below XTR. I was thinking of an 800-1000 budget on a RB, but that puts me into tiagra/sora range....which is sorta crappy. I'm worried that I would get annoyed with it vs a minimal 105 setup, but that puts me into the 1200-1500 range.

any thoughts? (or killer connections :D ;D)

Lotsa connections but none that have any buying power left for the year I suspect. I'll see though, they all just got back from the Vegas show :D

lol. I can always cross my fingers. It is a weird market. the 09's are rolling in but the USD$ went to shit, so 08's in general aren't getting much of a markdown while the 09's are jumping up.

I have a road bike that I used ONCE. haha. I would suggest going to performance they always have deals. I got mine for about 1100 (all ultegra and carbon/aluminum mix frame). Plus if you join the club you get 10 percent of what you spent towards your next purchase.

Karl (Unarce), Tim (TFP) and a bunch of other BA old school reefers are roaddies, they might know of some good deals. Try posting on the MARS forum (do they have their own off RC?).

Looking at a roadie at the moment myself also. Just need a frame; my bro has 105 parts for the pieces. :p

Good luck with the search.

Tony the bike I got from performance was a fuji team LE (LE means the bike is only distributed by performance in the US). I think performance can probably mark down those bikes the most. A friend of mine is sponsered by a store in marin. I don't think his discount is very much though.

I'm really looking into the Specialized Roubaix but it starts at about $1600.

I can't pull specialized off. I do have a friend there but they are only allowed 1 bike a year and only in their size :(

No worries Gresham. That was just one of the "comfort" geometry bikes (vs agressive ...only speed matters) my LBS had. I wouldn't object to Trek or Giant either on their comparable geometries lol. Yesterday I revisited ketrel...lovely bikes. painful prices :p

Ketral or kestrel? I know the last one (one of the first all c.fiber mountain bikes) as they used to be a local company and I had several friends that worked there :)

ya, that is it. I just didn't type it out correctly.

Back when I built my MB many many years ago, Kestrel and Klein were the two sites I often drooled over.

Someplace in my piles of storage I actually have a cut out of one of their failed prototypes :) Just a cross section but cool none the less.

new baby :-D
