Anyone in the city want to frag an acan with me?

I've never done it and I'm scared to try it. I think it would be pretty easy seeing that the entire rock is covered and mouths are now growing under the rock. I'm hoping to get about 2-3 frags to throw into DBTC out of it.

This is the colony:

Very nice. I'm all the way in Pittsburg but if you want to bring it to the next meeting with water I could bring my tools to help you do it. How thick is that piece of rock? lmk

1) got a dremel?

2) got diamond blades?

3) Offer in DBTC first, just in case not as many wants it as you have frag, then you don't have a bunch of frags around :D

It's really easy, you most likely are not going to cut around each polyp, you'll cut flesh anyway you do it. What I would do is cut off the frags all as one piece. Make a mental line near an edge or something try to minimize cutting through the center of polyps, and just chop through them, you'll cut coral, it'll heal, and after a few weeks you won't hear the tiny screams anymore either ;). Then when you have that bigger piece cut, you can proceed to cut up the rest.

Nice!

How many heads did did you start with? That looks like multiple years worth of growth for a acan!

Cheers,

Josh

+1 on the dremel, make sure you get the stiffer, thicker of the diamond carbide blades, the really thin wafer ones will break on you too easy.

Or bring it to the next BOD meeting. I heard rumors of power tools in preparation for the swap! :D

my dremel has the 24" cable extension, if the dremel is grounded think you could stick it in the tank and cut the coral in place? :P

Don't try this at home!

We will be doing some fragging at the December meeting, people are bringing dremels, tile saws, hammers, etc. You're more than welcome to bring it there.

Yup. Jan BOD meeting. Ian could make this one with his super X-LASER frag cutter since it is on Sunday.
