Are we getting a VIP tour of the Aquarium before it opens?

My wife and I are members of the SH Aquarium and in Sept. there will be a tour (Members Only) and I was wondering if we also get a Behind The Scenes Look ourselves, I would love to go in the back and smell the skimmer juice .

We signed up for the first showing: 9AM Sunday. After which my family will enjoy Dim Sum at Yank Sing before taking our son home for his nap. I too would like a little more than the "average" person, but I bet there will be better opportunities after they are up and running. I'll bet there are boxes and crap everywhere behind the scenes. It will take them a few months before they can show all of the inner workings.

When is the members only tour, I plan on becoming a member with "the wife" too, but it'd be silly to get a membership before the open because those are wasted days I can't spend with my face pressed against the tank

Member tours are September 14-19. You need to RSVP because it looks like they are guided and for a limited time.

Matt and I talked about this once, but since I am not around till the 25th, I'm not really sure whats the status (though it looks like I will be going full time!).

I am presently going through the guide/docent training at the Academy. With the opening less than a month away take it from me, you certainly don't want to try to arrange a private tour prior to September 27th.
I'm with Dyngoe. Even then we should wait until the dust settles.
After a couple months, the staff will be more inclined to give us a "special" behind-the-scenes
tour. I can't speak for The Academy; just my opinion.
Until then, if you want to get an early look, join up and get the official invite for the members tour (RSVP required). I'm sure you'll all be impressed.

My wife and I joined two years ago (That's how I found out about BAR, There was a BAR sign on the window of the frag facility) We knew that this years membership money was only to support the academy not to attend, we about all the construction. I will RSVP ASAP.

yeah im signed up to go a half hour after Matt. but yes, id love to have a behind the scenes tour too. Thales- congrats!! that is soooo awesome. it would be a dream come true to work there. although i would have my face pressed up against all the tanks too, so im with mike on that one. cant WAIT to see it though!!!!

Patting my own back alert! I am full time now and going permanent! I am freaking thrilled, but am working my bootie off every day. I get to send my kid to a bilingual school too!

I was over at the park last Friday and got to dive the Cali Coast tank - small like 140,000 gallons. The park is looking fantastic, really really amazing. The reef is coming along, and after it matures it will be really amazing.

Hahaha... Rich takes pictures 100 times better than me and his camera gears cost 10 times my camera LOL ..
