v1.27.0 was just released and I'm really happy with its new feature.

I've been struggling with a way to get information about members - which is super useful when you go meet them or plan on doling out frags. The solution finally came to me yesterday: BARcard. It's a simple card with all the information we have about a member. You can see mine here: https://barcode.bareefers.org/bc/member/15211.

To see yours, just go to https://barcode.bareefers.org/bc/members and look yourself up. The lookup is also available in the navigation drawer as "Members".

It's also a perma-link, so you can use it as your signature, just like I did down there.

Now, all the places in BARcode that link to a member, land there (instead of your forum profile) which is super handy.

I also added the member's location for the list of people waiting for a frag.

hmm not sure if it is tied to the update, but my Barcode is showing up empty for me, personal collection, dbtc collection, pif collection etc. I cleared site data, tried different device/browsers and incognito tabs. Not sure if it is isolated to me or more widespread

Does it show your name at the top right corner?

I just pushed another update that adds links to the coral stats in the member card. Pretty cool - there are so many way to look at this data...

What does it say? Can you show me a screen shot with the URL showing?
sure this is what I see:

With regards to BARcode image quality (@JVU)

I put up an example so I can get some help with the options.

Here is an original image (4032x3024), it is 2.7 MB: https://barcode.bareefers.org/bc/uploads/pics/original.jpg
Here is the current thumbnail (400x300) created by BARcode, it is 29 KB: https://barcode.bareefers.org/bc/uploads/pics/current.jpg
Here is an alternative, lossless webp thumbnail (400x300), it is 169 KB: https://barcode.bareefers.org/bc/uploads/pics/lossless.webp

My eyes see a slight improvement in the webp file, but is it worth 140 KB?

What about if BARcode posts larger images to the thread and downsized images to the BARcode gallery view? Maybe full size again if someone clicks through to the individual coral in BARcode. I assume your concern is the size of images in BARcode gallery where it is showing a bunch at a time, not on the website threads or individual coral pages?

For me the point is the original images are a lot better than any kind of thumbnails. I love seeing some of the amazing photography our members post. Small thumbnails are better in some instances, but we shouldn’t be downsizing everything on the site if we don’t have to.

I get it. You’re right, we shouldn’t use the thumbnail in the thread. I’ll fix that. You can always edit the thread to add or replace pictures.

BARcode v1.29.0 released just now: https://barcode.bareefers.org/

- BARcode now has access to supporting membership information, so it now sends out notifications when it expires or is about to expire. It will send out a single notification via PM if your membership will expire within a week. If it expires and you don't renew, it will send out another.

- Added persistent sessions, so you should not get the 'login' page as frequently. Also, when you're not logged in, it takes you directly to the forum login page. If you're not a supporting member, it takes you to that page.

- When adding a new item, only show the 'new thread' warning when it is a DBTC item. Threads are not created for PIF or private items.

- Fixed the member links in the DBTC Top 10 page

- Thumbnails are now converted to JPEG. Before, they were rotated and resized but saved in the same format as the incoming picture.

- And some other things I'll tell you about later...

Wow. That sounds like a lot. Thank you Pablo! Make sure to pace yourself! You’ve taken care of many pressing issues already, and no need to work too hard too fast.
