I just finished bandsaw-ing corals and will meet up with @mozby’sreef later this week to handoff the saw.
A note about the condition of the bandsaw.
The saw reached me with the tank holder broken. It had been superglued back together (the superglue broke when I turned it on) so I added a zip-tie to hold the tank up. Also, one white threaded acrylic screw was missing (looks like it had been broken off) and two of the silicone(?) feet were missing.
I always rinse the tank and hosing with RO water and want to remind other people if they do not do this, the water line to the blade and the water exit on the bottom of the unit can clog. It seemed like water is not flowing as well from tank to blade so I removed and soaked the plastic piece that holds the end of the water line next to the blade in mild vinegar RO solution but it did not help as much as I hoped. I replaced the water tubing.
I think the blade is cutting through coral rougher than I remember the first time I borrowed it so I recommend someone orders a new blade so it will be ready when it’s needed. It worked OK on the chalices and montis I just cut. Who usually orders the blades?
Thanks for the update. I think I am changing my timeframe of fragging and so will either take Bruce up on his saw offer or use a Dremel. Decided this afternoon it is more pressing to stabilize rockwork in DT and redo frag tank aquascape before we make lots of frags later this week.
Thanks Mike, good to remind people about the maintenance needs.
I’ll add one more thing I noticed between the last time I borrowed the saw and this time, this saw didn’t have the Neptune’s sticker on it (Neptune’s donated it). Do we have two saws or did someone remove the sticker...?
