There is a thread on RC about "wet skimmate water changes" What exactly is this and how is it different from emptying your skimmer cup when it is full and doing regular water changes?

I wouldn't go too crazy balancing SG when it comes to skimmate, if you skim real wet you may need to monitor, but you are adding Ca and carbonate and that increases SG, so in the end things balance out.

Can I just dilute some NSW in my ATO so that I don't get hyper salinity with the top off and let my skimmer just drain into a collection cup at a rate of about a gallon a day?

I guess you could do that, are you saying your skimmer pulls a gallon a day?

Well I am guessing, I would have to test it out to see how much exactly but that is the thought.
