Certification through Bamboo Reef

I'm planning to get certified by the end of the year but I'm trying to get some input as to good instructors/good places to get certified. There's a place a couple blocks away from me up here in SF (near AT&T Park) called Bamboo Reef. Here's the website:

Anyone go through them before?

My wife and I have taken some refresher courses through them. They should be fine for a place to get certified. They have a dive pool in the back.

Cool...thanks for the input Bryan. I'm not trying to be totally lazy but it would be convenient since they are so close to my apartment.

How'd you guys do in the playoffs last night?

We wound up being the #4 seed so we made the top bracket. Unfortunately we had to play the #1 seed who basically demolished everyone they played. We had them on the ropes for a while but ultimately lost 14-13 after allowing a 11 run 5th inning. Sucks as we had 3 of our regulars out of town which may have made the difference.

You guys took our spot! Haha! Just kidding. We ended up as the #5 seed but lost by one run too in our opening game.

Those guys are tough. 14-13 isn't bad though. Like you said, their average margin of victory is probably around 15-20 runs. We played them tough this year and actually tied them so we considered it a win.

Nice. Stopped playing hard ball about 5 years ago, now I play softball four nights a week ha,ha,ha. In 10 years I'll probably be playing nothing. Last night two of our players weren't calling for the ball and they collided. Found out via text that one of them (who was out of the game after that incident) broke their tibia and may need surgery. It sucks having an injury that dramatic over softball! But I guess when you get older your more suspect getting injured. What we do for sports :)

Haha! I know what you mean. We're definitely more injury prone as we get older but somehow we still think we can do the same things as when we were 18.

Ouch...hopefullly he has a quick recovery. That's definitely a brutal injury for softball but it's good to see that guys are going all out!

Durwin, long time no see. How's the frag tank coming along? 8)
I got my diving certification through Bamboo Reef this past summer.
My instructor and diver tester was Patrick Belton, and he was great. Though he is the only instructor I've had, but I can easily recommend him though :)
There is a guy named Matt Muldorf or something there ... I think he is the owner of the facility ... nice guy, though he is pretty testy about a lot of things sometimes, so I don't know if you'd want to have him ...

Hey Ant! I haven't had time to really start up the frag tank yet although I've been slowly accumulating the parts I need. I now have the 10 gallon tank, heater, Lifereef overflow, Eheim 1250 return pump, a tunze nanostream and eggcrate. All I need now is the plumbing supplies which I will need help with because I'm definitely not a plumber. Hopefully I can get it together in the next few weeks. Might get laid off at work so I'll have plenty of time then!!!

How's everything with your tanks?

So I think I'm going to switch gears and actually get NAUI certified through this guy named Wayne Mitchell. He's down in SSF and a few friends of mine went through him. But if I do get laid off, I might change my mind again because I won't be working down here in SSF which was part of the reason for going through him. We'll see...

Nice! At least things are coming along with the frag tank.
I am slowly gathering pieces for my new tank as well! Just need to move my 40g out. I have already gotten rid of all the rock and corals. Just need to get rid of the fish, and equipment. Then it is onto the cube tank!

Can't wait to see the cube tank up and running! Send me a pic when you're done with it (well, I should say once you have it initially setup...one is never "done" with one's tank).

Agreed :) I will definitely keep you posted! But since your frag tank will probably be up sooner than my cube, you will probably be growing frags out like mad! I will probably end up dropping you a line for a couple frags for my cube once it is up ;)
