Going to install a piece of acrylic to the bottom of the new tank that would be flush and sealed and I am trying to decide which color to use. I am torn between white and black at this point.

Looking at this place to order https://www.cuttingboardcompany.com/ and will likely be using 1/2" for thickness. Would appreciate your vote and thoughts

What are you trying to accomplish white reflects and is very cheery, black blends in more and tends to look sophisticated

I personally would go for black but once coraline starts growing it will cover it and won't really make a difference if it was black or white.

I think I'd go with white. I'm just envisioning what it will look like with some nice coraline algae on it. Black would be boring but white might be a nice contrast.

I would go with hypercolor.

How are you going to get the acrylic flush with the bottom? I can't imagine that stuff won't get under it, even if it is "flush"

Was planning on siliconing it to the bottom. That is what I have seen and heard of others doing with it.

Ah gotcha.

Why not just put a piece of starboard down and be done with it? I'm assuming you're doing it to reduce the chance of dinkin your new tank's bottom with rocks.

It is essentially the same as starboard. The idea with the silicone is to keep crap from getting underneath it.

I see, if you go white as your choice I'd go the starboard route, I'd imagine the more rough texture would allow corals to grow more easily on the bottom :)

That is what I am saying though. The cutting boards are that same textured material as starboard just cheaper and cut to fit.

Cut odd angle shapes that connect together. You'll have to do at least two pieces to fit it in the tank, even with the euro-braced sides. Doing square/rectangle/straight lines always looks bad when doing this. The tank you're trying to coat has a gray back right now, why not match it?

Good point on both Gresham. My plan was to have it cut a little larger then the tank dimensions and have Max cut it to size but i see what you mean about neding to halve it. Grey isn't one of the choices available from this company not married to this particular compnay by any means but I know of some people that have used them before and have been quite happy with the product. I have been leaning toward black anyway for just that reason just like the reflective properties of the white.
