I have red algae that is constantly growing in my tank and I can't seem to get rid of it. Things I''ve done so far:

[- Put in Phosphate pads in my filter
2. Change out my filters in my ROI unit
3. Reduce the feeding
4. cleaned out any extra waste via water changes (once a week)

Dr. Foster and Smith use to sell a red phosphate pad which included a powder to use in the tank (I think it was an antibiotic) that wipe the red algae in a day without any harmful affects to the tank, however, I can't find it anymore. Does anyone know where I can get it from or other things I can try?

Thanks,

What kind of red algae? Slime or puffy?

Do you know your nitrate or phosphate readings?
How old is the tank? It could be a cycle if its a newish tank.

Correction, it's red Slime and not red hair Algae. The tank has been established for two years...

Along with nutrients, this could be from not enough flow or old bulbs. People have done a lights out for 2-3 days and have rid themselves of cyano slime algae. There is also a product that rids it pretty easily. However, Id use a more natural method before using a chemical. Also these may be temporary fixes for the actual problem.

Thanks for all the suggestions and input. I've added more flow and my lights are less than 3 months old.

I started to get some red slime in my frag tank. It ONLY appeared on the egg crate on a section that had the top almost completely capped with a large frag plug (ie, very very low flow)
