David's 180 Bow Front Reef

Hey guys,
I'm planning on becoming more involved here and will be offering some DBTCs. I have been avoiding sitting down to start a journal and figured I would just get a basic one started and work my way back from there. Otherwise, it may take years to get the motivation to create a journal.

I started the tank in November of 2019. I will take some photos of the tank and gear over time, but here is a quick video of my livestock as of 5/31/22 to get me going.

Nice setup! Let's see a sump pic. How are you doing trace elements?
Here are a couple of pics of the sump. I'm in the middle of a wire job, so my whole sump is kind of a mess right now. I'll update my wires when all done. Not terrible proud of it right now, but it is efficient.

I'm dosing Triton trace elements about once every couple of weeks. I'm dosing the larger corrections after ICP, which is usually every 4-6 weeks.

Through my Apex DOS, I am auto dosing Calcium and Alkalinity. I'm presently running Rowaphos in my reactor and dosing Chemipure Blue in my sump.

My Phospahtes were recently out of control after my RO water needed a change of cartridge. With the Rowaphos and WCs, my phosphates are back in the .03-.08 range. My Nitrates have been anywhere from .05 to 3 over the last 6 months. My SPS do much better with lower Nitrates. They are not as bothered by higher phosphate, but I prefer to keep them fairly low.

What's out of control? Check out my latest journal post. Not a recommendation by any means, but interesting to see what can be done at different nutrient levels.

Don't be ashamed of bad wiring jobs, that was my first 3 years.

They got up to .2 and .3, but after changing my RO cartridge, running Rowaphos and doing WCs, it’s all good now. Luckily I didn’t lose anything during the spike.

I wasn’t so lucky when I was using the Tropic Marin Pro Reef Turkish salts. It caused a bloodbath of coral loss!

I’ll check out your journal post.
