Dip

At the LFS when we purchase fish we make sure they have no visible signs of disease, proper coloration, good girth, and an appetite, amongst other things.
But what do you all use to dip your fish prior to adding them into the aquaria?
Are there certain fishes (in general/of a certain genus) that do not tolerate or handle certain dips as well as other fish?
Thanks!

I'll let Jeremy chime in, since he's more of an expert than most people here, me I haven't bought a new fish in... quite a while, he on the other hand most likely gets them with a bit more regularity due to his clients.

Sorry Anthony slipped by me, normally I use pH adjusted freshwater dips for ~10 min after acclimation, if the fish has been in the bag for a long time I add a drop of Amquel (the regular not the +) during the acclimation so the pH shift doesn't shift the ammonium to ammonia.

Lately due to one of the local wholesalers problem with eye flukes (although I heard a rumor that the source of the problem is in LA), I've been using straight saltwater with prazi pro (as directed the volumes change depending on water volume, and I'm too lazy to walk out to my truck and get the bottle ;D) dips 10-15 min to get rid of the flukes. This approach I use with tangs, angels, rabbitfish/foxface, and basselets where I've noticed them the most. Flukes are bad and lead to secondary infections, and parasites due to the stress. If you see a tang or angel with a cloudy eye, if it's not from trauma, you can bet there's something crawling around on its eye

No problem Jeremy :)
So, ALL your fish go through a pH (and temperature I am assuming) adjusted freshwater dip?
So when you're done acclimating a fish in a bucket you add the according amount of Prazi-Pro to the bucket? Is Prazi-Pro stressful on a fish?
Sorry for all the questions - I just don't have room for a QT tank. When I get the new fish for my tank later down the line, I wanted to have some sort of dip regimen to give the fish.

I haven't noticed any stress using Prazi Pro other than them sitting in a bucket for a little while and being handled a bit. I have yet to forget one in the bucket, so I can't speak to the effects of leaving them in long term, I know some stores run it in their central systems occasionally to get rid of the little bastards.

Not all fish get freshwater, the ones that go into the Prazi Pro are dipped in saltwater with the PP in it.

I'm sure Gresham can chime in too, he has a ton of experience with cleaning out fish. I don't buy too many fish simply because I do my best to have a potted plants not flowers in a vase attitude, if the customer wants that I give them another companies card, I'm busy enough (and getting busier).

Eye flukes are coming from the exporters Jeremy. Sure some stateside may be infected, but the origin is the exporters :( Many in LA bleach their systems routinely.

So out of curiosity, do you feel they are in the holding facilities at the exporters, or something that is endemic? It seems to me that I'm seeing way more than I used to just a few years ago.

Also, what did you guys do at Cortez, or for that matter how are the boys stateside dealing with it?
