Hanging lights - hardware help

Hi all,

I'm not handy at all and was wondering if someone could help me with some hardware issues. Marioensf just blessed me with a homemade EMT conduit light hanging fixture, but I need to cut it down to size and affix it to my tank stand. So here are the issues I'm having:

1) What type of saw do I need to cut the EMT conduit? I have a fine toothed hack saw in my garage, will that do the trick?
2) What kind of screws should I use to affix the conduits? I'm using these straps to attach the conduits to the stand: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100187726&N=10000003+90021.
3) My stand does not have a back panel, so I need to screw the traps into the very bottom of the stand and the baseboard that the tank is sitting on. Will that compromise the strength of the stand?

Thanks all for the help!
Mike

1. Yes a hack saw should be fine, you may want to file down the ends when you're finished.

2. Page unavailable

3. Pics would really help

you can borrow it, I forgot to mention about the pipe cutter!! today (marioensf=xcaret)
give me a call tomorrow I'll be working at my brothers place on the stand I showed you.
I totally forgot about the cutter.
As far as clamping it down, wood screws will hold it in place, I preferred the plastic ones but metal will do.

... a pilot hole for the screws will make it easy on the material too without compromising strenght IMO

Hey Mario, thanks again for the great deal :). I'm stuck at work right now, so I won't be able to pick up the cutter from you. Are you ever in Chinatown?

Hey Mario. No worries man, thanks for trying. I actually was able to cut the conduit quite cleanly with the hack saw. I also sanded it down a bit. The fixture is done and installed, check it out here and let me know what you think I should change to it: http://www.bareefers.org/discussion/index.php?topic=6699.new#new
