got ethical husbandry?

hello!

I just wanted to introduce myself...

I am new to reefing.. its my first tank and time. Crabby suggested that I come check out this club and I love it! I have just set up my 135 gallon tank with a 2x40 gallons sump/refugium. Whew lot of work .. and money money money >< LOL . So Ive got this GREAT new live rock.. and now there are diatoms everywhere (should have waited to install the ro system sheesh) Can I just throw some snails in there? (second week of cycling.. test show its ok)

thanks for the advice and sorry for any typos!

Hey Ray. Don't worry about the diatoms. They always seem to show up in a new cycling tank. Once basic parameters are stable, and Ammonia and Nitrite (hopefully nitrate too) are zero, then it should be safe for snails. They will make short work of it. I had a tank cycle in a week but typically it takes a few weeks to fully cycle. Just depends on how much dieoff you have.

Welcome. Like Tony said I would not worry about the diatoms, this happens to everyone. Don't be afraid to ask questions everyone here is nice and are more then willing to help you.

hello everyone.. thanks for the welcome.. Im in the bay area (alameda) and would like to get to know this little network.. you all seem quite nice. IM so very tired though.. im becoming obssed lol ;) I bought most of my stuff used from cl... but i am learning.. that just becuase it comes from someone.. doesnt mean it was done right.. now i have to go through and do it all over again (like plumbing) and then ..everyone has thier own way of doing it right... sigh
><
