I SAW A SHARK!!!!! :D

Hey guys.. Back from Maui. it was sooo awesome. My most favorite island yet! Went snorkeling every day, saw tons of fish, and some corals and sea turtles. We took a boat out to Molokini so we could see all the corals there.. and John and I were swimming together, and I'm just swimming along, looking at all the corals, and I look down about 15-20 feet under me, and I see something pretty big looking, swimming in my direction. It was a 6ft Black Tipped Reef Shark!!!!! scared the F outta me at first, but as soon as i realized he wasnt really paying attention to us snorkelers, i relaxed, and swam where he was, just so i knew where he was. well.. maybe it wasnt a she. LOL who knows. anyways, thought id let you guys know that im back. tanks are all looking like crap because i was gone for an entire week, and then i needed a week to just relax, and get back into the daily grind... tanks are in need of a good cleaning. I went to Dolphin today, to get some water and more sand (im trying to make a deeper sandbed in my 60 gal), and i saw a purple and green bonsai they had there, so i bought a frag of that. i'll post pictures up eventually. too lazy right now. BUT- MIKE- I went to the Maui Ocean Center, and i took pics of the tank for you, but i dont know if i got the right one, so i took multiples. I'll post on here soon, unless you want to PM me, and i can just email them right to you. loved the place. their tanks were "ok". ive seen better out here. but the fish were really nice.
How was the last meeting? I left for HI that day, so i couldnt go. how id everyone?

Kelly

Sweet, I didn't see any sharks when I went, which is probably good I didn't want to see any personally :D

I'll shoot up a PM if you don't want to post all the pictures of the tanks :D

Yeah I tried to see if there were any job openings at the local college, unfortunately no... besides the cost of living there makes San Francisco look cheap.

I'm so glad you got to see one Kelly, they are beautiful creatures. Good to have you back, I'm glad you had a good trip!

Very cool dive. When I went a couple of years ago it was whale mating season (think it was early Feb) you could totally hear them in the water as if they were tight next to you.

Yeah I went in January and it was quite cool that the boat just ran across a bunch of whales.. hey we didn't even pay for a whale watching trip :D

Trying to time the whales was impossible so I just took picture after picture hoping for some decent shots, and I got quite a few nice ones like the image below. I think I would be more scared about seeing one of these near me than a 6 foot shark though (the picture has people in the background for scale)

Cool! Many years ago I was diving the "Blue Hole" in Belize, we were down to about 130-140 ft and if you looked up to the surface, you could see the silhouete (whatever, "shadow") of many black tip reef sharks circling above. It's scary enough being that deep (even for just 5 minutes!) but looking up at sharks is a bit nerve wracking!
