I just got some 35 ppt refractometer calibration standard from Bryan (who was kind of enough to supply me with it). He did mention that I should double check that it should be 35 ppt.
So, I place a drop of two on my refractometer, and turn the adjustment screw until it reads 35 ppt?

yes.

Then double check it with RO/DI and again with the standard. RO/DI should be close (or at 0). If it is really far off, but correct for 35ppt, then you either did something wrong (like not flushing residual solution/salts) or your refractometer is borked.

Thanks
I just calibrated my refractometer (which I initially only calibrated using DI water) with the 35 ppt standard. I was 1 ppt off :)
