Our mission

Lepastrea and a last effort

Never heard of a Lepastrea before. I've kept Leptastrea before and it doesn't look like it, so I picked it up to see what it'll eventually color up to be (it's very brown at the moment :p ).

Does it resemble anything off the top of your head? I'm almost certain that I've seen the species before, but don't remember what it is...

Also picked up this sucker. I've never tried to recover anything this messed up. Anyone else have any luck w/something this badly damaged in the past?

I had a brain coral that was a good size but in bad shape but it was too far along to bring it back.

The pictures were lost with the last forum move/upgrade. I'll see if I can find them if you want.

Maybe its a cyphastrea? Its hard for me to tell, but it also looks pretty beat up. It might be more obvious with PE.

Looks like the perfect job for you. ;)

Yeah, it's odd. It's definitely an sps of some sort.

The polyps kind of resemble Montipora, but bigger. They're at least twice the size of the polyps of the LE superman or Perry's aussie monti. Here's some of the polyps peeking out.

LOL. Dunno, since the pieces we ordered never came in so nothing to compare it against. It's also kind of weird with the irregularities in the surface.

I just want to see what it becomes whenever it colors in. It's a decent size piece (size of my palm) so if it turns out to be a foveolata, it's getting cut up, haha.

Yup, it works.

Definitely not that coral for sure. The polyps looks very different. The Lepastrea looks like a typical LPS blasto whereas this one is more like an sps w/montipora like polyps.

That's an interesting piece you got there, Perry. Thanks for posting that up for comparison.
