One of my simple enjoyments in life

Every year, Cow Palace (at least until those stupid greedy SOBs decide to tear it down to build condos *sigh*.. I hate this area sometimes)
San Francisco (ironically the Cow Palace isn't in San Francisco)... Flower and Garden Show.

The main hall has beautifully done landscapes that are simply the best eyecandy in the world to me, the companies come in they dump tons of soil in there, and literally build a backyard in a week, only to take it down 5 days later. If you or your SO are thinking about re-doing a backyard this definitely is a place to go brainstorming for ideas (bring a camera!), they also have the booths as well where various types of backyard/outdoor stuff is sold (some snake-oil and not :D) but it's something I enjoy greatly! (That and it's one of the few Cow Palace events where they use a large portion of the whole place!)

In case anyone is interested see the cowpalace link for times/dates.

[/quote]I thought your simple enjoyment was watching your g/f clean your tank.

In regards to he CP, I say tear the whole area down, all of the section 8 and everything it's a dump. Almost reminds me of some of the east coast projects I lived around, just in a nicer area. At least there you can drive out of there in a couple of minutes as opposed to block after block mile after mile of garbage.

well ok the g/f cleaning the tank is nice :D

As to the CP, yeah if the tore the WHOLE area down then I'd be down with it, I am too cheap to pay the $10 to park in the parking lot so park on city streets, and while not like Hunterspoint scary it still makes you think twice about being a cheap ass. However at best they'll simply tear the CP down and turn the whole thing into a huge condo complex, with the section 8 stuff across the street.

Heh, Hunter's Point... I had "friends" from there that thought shooting at police helicopters was great entertainment.

Mike,

I'm with you. That flower and garden show is always a treat. In addition to the great displays, they have a pretty good selection of orchids for sale, and other stuff like bamboo and various trees. The only thing I don't like is the $20 entry fee.

C

Yeah Charles $20 is harsh... luckily I still have my ID from SFSU, and I look young enough to pass for a student :D So $9 admission for me :)

I prefer the Orchid show that just rolled thru SF :)

As for the Cow Palace, memories...10K ravers in a room that smells like cow shmit, wahoo, lotsa o fun :)

I go some years with my mother, it's actually a really cool show. I'll probably go this year with my camera and mom ;)

Groovy Gresham, back in the days when they actually used it for cows! :D

Art: If you do please take some pictures and share, I always bring a camera, I take crappy shots as it is, and worst of all I forget to recharge my batteries before the show so I end up getting like 3-4 of the displays and then the BATTERY EMPTY light shoots on

haha mike, you should always carry spares too just in case ;)

I'll post any noteworthy shots for sure =)

Ok here are some photos I took when I went, not terribly many I don't want to spam up my thread with too much garbage, didn't post in Art's thread because I didn't want to ugly it up :D

As Art mentioned, the lighting in there was very low, granted it was VERY nice to look at with your eyes, however from a photographers perspective probably sucked. As a result ample use of the flash, the down side is these gardens are many layers deep so what the light flashes off of to trigger the camera is up in the air... Well unless you know what you're doing (which I don't). But overall this is more of an idea place for me more so a place to take pictures, and its fun to walk around seeing everyones creations all in one building.

Here's one of the first ones as you walk through, it was a lost in the jungle theme

This was a very simple fountain tied into the rock formation

This was one of my favorites, much too large (and too many people) to get a shot of the whole thing, but it had a Mediterranean feel to it I believe, four olive trees surrounding a little cove that doubled as benches to sit on.

A very simple, and small double pond waterfall, another nice setup, however some aspects over the overall design of this garden didn't appeal to me, however this was the center piece of the garden so that's why I took the picture

Here's one of the really deep gardens where the flash kind of went bonkers, however at the back were coral barked maple trees so I had to snap a picture at them

One of the many bonsai collections they had (not for sale), this is a grove of Japanese maples
