Here is hte latest picts of the current state of the micro that I won at the swap. Foam background in in place liverock in the filter and tank and live sand in place. Now just gonna wait a bit before I add anything to it. But looks like it could be off to a goo start. Cute little tank, maybe just get one nice type of zoo and one fish and watch them grow.

enjoy

The foam came from the local hardware store. It's black pond landscaping foam. Even has a "Safe for Fish" icon on the back. I covered egg crate witht the foam then put a few rocks and sand in it before it dried. Then covered the sandy areas on the background with resin and sprinkled fine sand on it. I built it in tow pieces so it could fit into the tank then siliconed it to the back wall. And sealed the seam and again covered the seam with sand.

It's not perfect but my first attempt at this type of background. As it gets coraline on it it'll look more natural. The main thing that I wanted to cover up was the blue acrylic background. This way I don't have to clean the back and the more coverage it gets the better it'll look. I'm happy with it so far.

Landscape
Exterior Filler-Adhesive

LandscapeTouch 'n Foam Landscape Filler-Adhesive is a black colored foam formulated to retain its dispensed color and blend naturally into the surrounding landscape, even when exposed to direct sunlight. It bonds quickly to porous or non-porous rock, stone, cement, wood and cloth and is ideal for replacing loose mortar in rock walls. Touch 'n Foam Landscape can also be used to direct water flow in pond or waterfall applications and it's safe for use around fish or plants.

• Black foam blends into shadows
• Won't discolor like conventional foam – no painting needed
• Expands to fill gaps and voids
• Easier and less expensive than mortar
• Superior adhesion
• Bonds with rock, stone, wood and most pond materials
• Fills holes in trees to seal out pests
• Replaces loose or damaged mortar in rock walls
• Use as a craft foam for artificial plants

yup planning on it. I had one zoo hitchiker which was on one of the rocks. He's closed up now but I'll use him as a test subject :)

just made it. The light was 13"es and the tank is 12.5 so I just went to Tap Plastics and had them cut 2" pieces of 3/4 acrylic rods then siliconed them to the top. That way I can remove it later if I want.

Simple stuff

13" Odessy 24 Watt PC light
Oceanic Nano Skimmer (Only one small enough I could find)
25 Watt Stealth Heater
200 micoron filter pad
5lbs Live rock
5lbs of Live sand
Backgrounds (Lace Rock, Foam, Sand)

Cool.. I would remove the thermometer. It doesn't take much to break it. I broke one in a tank and spent the next 30 minutes trying to get the stuff out of the tank..
