This has nothing to do with the GB on BAR RC. ;D

I stopped by a LFS and heard from the owner that it's extremely hard to get Purple tang now. Is that true? If so, does anyone know the reason why?

It's not rocket science folks, it's quite simple really. It's very heard to get shipments out of the Red Sea due to Red Sea nations regulations ;) Most countries there do not allow collections.

did they change the regulation or something? So it's hard to get anything from Red Sea now?

AFAIK Purple Tangs were never that abundant in stores, at least anywhere else compared to yellow tangs or other "cheaper" tangs (one of the reasons they're cheaper)

It's never be an easy task getting stuff from the Red Sea and now it's even harder. FWIW Purple Tangs typically are east Coasters yellow tangs ;) In other words Purples on the East coast are like Yellow on the west.
