Just looking to buy a real sunset monti from someone online and I was wondering if you guys can confirm if this is the real deal. I'm not real good at ID's and regardless, it still looks beautiful to me but if I'm going to spend the money, I'd like to know that I'm getting the real thing. Thanks!

I doubt anyone could honestly tell you if that's the real deal or not. My advice find someone who you trust, who knows that person to figure out if it's the real deal.

I bought my from Karl (Unarc on RC) and I trust him implicitly that it's the real deal, however under my lights it lost a lot of the orange color.

That being said, I seem to recall the polyps on the sunset being very large compared to other montis, unless he just touched that one and they retracted they look awfully small.

Yup the polyps on the sunset is like the tyree true undata size. Very large polyps for a monti.

I just got a response and apparently the seller bought it from fragfarmer.com. I haven't purchased from them before but are they pretty reputable?

They had several frags at Atlantis when I was there last week. Go check it out, then you can see the frag in person before buying. You will know for sure that what you see is what you get.

Yeah, I was actually down at Atlantis a couple weekends ago and checked out the sunset monti frags. Of course they were WAY out of my budget but I had a good look at them and they looked nice. But my coral eyes still aren't that good and I'm not an expert at picking out the subtle differences. I think I'm going to go ahead and buy it though. I just can't resist...

Just ask the seller if he can trace it all the way to Tyree. That's no guarantee either. As mentioned above, it will depend on the integrity of the seller.

Well, I went ahead and bought it after seeing a pic of the original mother colony. Looks like the big polyps that Mike and Ian were talking about.
