Does anyone have a recommendation for a 20" 150w HQI fixture (not pendant)? Actinic supplementation not needed (nor wanted).Leaning towards getting a Sunpod as I have one on one of my other tanks, but want to know if there is anything else out there worth trying.

I haven't seen any HQI retrofit. It's required the UV glass. Unless you DIY, I don't think there is any HQI that is not pendant. There is good pendant that you don't mind showing and there is ugly one that you want to hide inside the canopy..

If you are talking about a complete setup like the sunpod, which is a pendant to me, there are some other expensive brand. Look on RC. Alan (hyacinth) is selling the Giesemann fixture. Very nice unit but expensive. You can buy a PFO HQI pendant and PFO Electronic ballast or Icecap ballast. That would be nice too.. The Giesemann fixture is too expensive to me.

Yeah, Giesemann - I can't justify ever spending that much money on a light fixture.
My new cube tank will not have a canopy, so a retrofit kit is definitely out of the picture. Sorry if I was too clear on what is a fixture or a pendant is, but yes I was looking for something similar to a Sunpod (something w/ legs to sit on top of the tank).

Maybe you should say how much you are willing to spend for the light. Can you hang the light instead of letting it sits on top of the tank?

Nope, hanging is not an option ... which is why I mentioned something w/ legs to sit on the tank.
