Refugium - Necessity?

Hey Folks,

I have been thinking about trying to add a small aquafuge to my tank. It's 37g, but I've been trying some SPS. Would people say that a refugium should be required, highly recommended, recommended, could go either way, not recommended? :P My tank will still primarily be zoa/paly based, but I'm going to aim to grow 4-7 nice SPS colonies.

My tank is only 24" wide, but I might be able to squeeze the small refugium in there with my skimmer.

Thanks,

- Herman

I think it really depends on what your using it for..nutrient export, safe breeding ground for inverts, and stablizing pH at night is what i use mine for...does it work? i would say so..but i've never ran the tank without it. The chaeto grows so i know its pulling something out...i would recommend one.

Since I don't skim, I consider it a necessity for my tanks.
