RotiFeast and ArctiFeast at the same time?

My tank is pretty sterile right now, and I just wanted to try to add a bit of rotifeast and arctifeast to bring out a bit more growth / color.

I have some monti caps, an acro, a ton of zoos, and a few euphillya.
(a few more acros coming tomorrow from liveaquaria)

Do you think it's a good idea? Turn the skimmers off for a night?

Should I dose both at the same time? Or alternate?

Anyone else have a feeding regime?

Should I spot feed, or basically let it float around?

thanks!

I feed both at the same time as well as separately.

I turn off the recirculation pump and just let the food circulate in the main tank.

If you circulate it through your sump, you could have your skimmer on a timer for feeding.

If I have time, I like to target feed Arcti-pods to my lps.

Well I've personally never seen zoos feed, sure I've seen them curl up but never seen food stick to them, atleast not in the way that many LPS does.

Artipods will probably be too big for your sps, the rotifeast is apparently good stuff, I would wait until the lights go out however to keep down fish competetion, and SPS tend to have their polyps out moreso at night (and yes I know there are some in some tanks that are the exception to the rule).

But yeah, turn your skimmer off, a mechanical timer works great for this, simply put in an "on" tag into it, and set it up so that 30 minutes later it'll flip on and you'll have a worry free night.

I tend to target feed mysis to my lps, it's more accessable for me to buy (the store that sells it in SF has shit for parking), and easier to flush out the nutrient "junk" that was fed to the buggers during rearing (I believe the nuclear orange goo in the arti-pods is a similar thing, except its a bit more viscous)

Actually, it's less damaging to the skimmer impeller assembly to simply put the air intake down into the water and leave the pump running.-Jim

I recommend killing the air source on the protein skimmer like Jim just suggested. I only suggest an hour or two at max. I don't turn mine off at all.

True, I like to leave my skimmer running so that the gunky foam doesn't fall back down into the water also. Return pump on a timer for me.

I do it for the simple fact that typically the most wear a pump will recieve, is from start up.

haha phong. I'll do a group buy... but I might just pickup a few bottles to try it first.

I went over to All About Fish and they had a good stock of both.

Tomorrow I'll grab the small sized bottles of each to try it out.

BTW, don't forget to fire your skimmers back up after the feeding. Trust me on this.

Group buy anyone?? ;D :D
[/quote]

Clubs get one Group Buy a year, but they have to be current on their MASNA membership :D

If some one wants to do it, you all need to choose who's in charge and have them contact me. Please make it worth my time though, if it's only a handful of bottles, I will refuse the order ;)

Heh, the person that asks has to be the one to organize!

Didn't learn your lesson from the Photo contest request? :D

Actually, we aren't a MASNA member as our dues have lapsed.
