Neptune Aquatics

Sante210's 65g

Hey BAR members,

Figured I would do a quick introduction and tank journal.

I started reef tanks 10+ years ago.
Was a previous BOD of NVR which was a great active group back in the days.
I still keep in touch with a few of the old members.

Well I moved a few years ago and decided it was time for a break.
After 2 years I started slowly piecing things back together.

First I got a great deal on a used tank that just needed a good cleaning.
I forgot to take a prior pic but once I was done cleaning it and painted the stand and installed new hinges it was like new.

I then bought a 20g tank at Petco and removed the plastic brace on top and put in dividers to make a sump.

I then started on my rock aqua scape

For equipment I went with the following:
Lighting - Kessil AP700
Skimmer - Simplicity 120DC
Pumps - Jaboa PP8's (for now)
Top off - XP Aqua Duettp
Top off reservoir - Auqa Gadget 5g
Heater - Eheim Jager 150w

Since putting water in it in December I've tried to be slow about adding things.
I never used a screen prior but after almost all of my fish jumping out I had to add one.

Here is current pics of the tank

Clean set up. What fish do you have?

Currently only have the following:
Pair of engineer gobies
Coral beauty angel
1 clown - had 5 but 4 jumped out

I don't know if it's cause they are tank raised or what but I've never had clowns jump
Also had another goby that jumped out
I love the look without but finally decided to put the screen top on.

So looking for recommendations.

One of my pumps went out so now I’m looking at getting Vortech which I should have got in the first place.

I don’t plan to do much sps mainly only softies.
Tank is 36” wide.

Could I run just one mp10 or m40?
Better to run to mp10’s?

What would you guys do?

Where would you put the MP10/40? Looks like your tank is pretty close to the wall, so you could you only put them on the sides? Which if you like to look from the sides, will not be pretty at all.

There are other options than Vortech if you want to still have them on the back wall and still have a wave maker ability. Tunze, Rossmont. Aquaillumination, etc. i.e. more than just Jebao.

My advice on DC pumps is to get a size larger than the minimum you need and run it at less than full speed, like 50%. It makes them whisper quiet, more energy efficient, prolongs their life, and gives you flexibility down the road.
