Well, I've had my acrylic tank for about 8 yrs and hardly put any scratches in it. Well today I took the inside part of my magnet out to remove some bubble algae and set the outside magnet on the top of the tank. Well the outside piece picked up some aragonite on it and scratched the heck out of part of the front outside ou the tank. So, where's the best place to buy the scratch removal kit?

ouch... that sucks... I put a few scratches on the inside of mine while aquascaping. Picked up a kit from Marine Depot. Will put it to work this week to see how it does.

Front outside? No biggie at all, a simple micro mesh kit followed by a Novus polish and you'll be better than new.

Steve, I have the novus polishes 1,2,3 if you want to use it and save your self a chunk of change.

The Pentax scratch removal kit (micromesh) works well. You can buy that from some LFS's or online. The Novus is from Tap Plastics.

Steve, just remind me before the swap so that I don't forget (unless you want it faster and can pick it up whenever :))

So how did the aragonite get on the outside of the tank and trapped between the magnet?

Sorry for the delayed response Steve, Tap has a decent selection of scratch removal papers, that's where I get mine. The Pentair kit is good as well, it's just that the pieces of mesh are pretty small making for more work than necessary.

Unfortunately, I tend to leave crap on top of my tank (green calcarius algae w/ aragonite attached to roots). The algae was thrown out but some aragonite was left behind.
