Skimmer question.

I was just curious how often if at all I could be cleaning my skimmer. I have the Simplicity 120dc skimmer and the neck gets pretty brown and sludgy. Should I be cleaning that when I remove and empty my collection cup?

No. Or at least it won't make it act like a new skimmer. Just give it a quick wipe and rinse.

I think you’re just getting rid of traces of manufacturing oils etc with the break in.

I use my finger to clean the neck then chase my girlfriend around the house for a minute or two asking if she is sure she doesn’t want to get a closer look or perhaps a whif.

I take a plastic yogurt cup and cut down one side of it, so it sort of looks like an arm chair. Then while holding the uncut part as a handle, I use it to scrape the scum off the neck. The scum falls into the cup instead of back into the water.
