Hey so I’m breaking down my garage/reorganizing and part of the project is a 40 breeder that will house all of my anemones. I’m going to attempt to start growing them out more and possibly selling if the cards lay out right as the stock is plentiful and worthy of resale imo.

Equipment is what I was able to find as my goal was to keep the build under 500$ and for a fully functional reef that required a bit of bargaining.

40 breeder
2x ai prime HD’s
Eshopps pf800 hob overflow
Eshopps Adv-100 sump
Eshopps s-150 skimmer
2x RFG nozzels
Jebao Dcq 3500
Cheap amazon 30$ fuge light
Inkbird temp controller
Finnex 300w heater
Auto aqua smart ato
Santa Monica HOG 1.5 scrubber
Carib sea life shape rocks
40lb “marine” sand

Only thin

I did a leak test and plumbing check today and all worked out well. The RFG nozzels will alllow me to not use a wave maker and considering it’s a nem grow out I thought that was the best idea since nobody likes a diced up nem.

The system holds roughly 55 gallons of water total and should be getting some saltwater in it over the weekend.

Dumped the bag of bio media in the display and I’ll transfer it over in 2 weeks once it’s seeded well.

Drill the tank and overflow box instead!
Drill the tank and overflow box instead!
I would have if this option didn’t cost so little. The Eshopps is a life reef clone and there’s really no way it can fail plus it’s a garage tank so the aesthetic isn’t super important either. Also putting an optical sensor shut off for the return as my failsafe Incase of a siphon break which by all my messing with it I couldn’t force to happen.

May I make a suggestion? The only thing holding up the weight of that tank are the screws through the vertical supports into the top rim of 2x4's. If you put up 4 more shorter vertical supports that fit between the top and bottom 2x4 frames it will be a few orders of magnitude stronger than those screws or nails. Something like how I did that stand.

Careful with those RFGs; I wouldn't consider them nem safe. The educator in the rear end of the nozzle that sucks in water to generate the random flow pattern can suck in a floating nem. (Yes, it's happened to me.)

I racked this thing as hard as a linebacker and it didn’t budge. Still may add them though as it’s better safe than sorry.

You’re not the first I’ve heard about but I’ve never had that issue in years I’ve been running them with nems. Power heads though most definitely made a purée a couple times in my reefing career.

With that tank design, all the weight comes down on the plastic trim along the edge of the tank. A plywood top helps a little bit as the vertical 2x4's will be resting against it. Nice build, i'll be following along.

Forgot to mention... what i did was put an egg crate divider between the RFG and rest of tank.

Yes, they can still squeeze through to the RFG if they're determined but usually the egg crate slows them down enough to give you a chance and grabbing them

Not a terrible idea and I may snag some egg rate since that’s simple.
